Any ideas for using frozen strawberries from last spring? I don't need jam. I've eaten them partially thawed with a little honey; over hot cereal; as sweetener on less-sweet fruit; over toast or biscuits. I can pick rhubarb any time, but right now don't have the sugar to make strawberry-rhubarb pie. Thanks.

I've been using dates as a sweetener. I put a cup of water in a pan, snip the dates into smaller pieces, cook until they disintegrate, then blend in a blender to become a syrup. You can use any sweet dried fruit, like apricots, or dates, or figs, or prunes.
Make a sweeter fruit flavored syrup, add the strawberries, make into a spread for bread or a filling for a cake or on biscuits.

Thanks, mogal. I thought of looking up a recipe. The smashed, still-frozen ones are sort of that. I'm low on plain sugar until I decide to go to a grocery store. I have a little each of honey, brown sugar, and molasses, to smooth out the occasional dish.
