For over a month we have been planning a visit to Lehman's. There was something I needed. Something kept coming up every Saturday and I wasn't able to go. We finally got to go yesterday. (BTW, I had now forgotten what it was I needed...)
They have expanded. There is now a significant amount of square footage designated for clothing. Not 'farm-y' type clothing, just clothing.
They were almost completely out of cast iron. They were down to one size stainless steel stock pot, which was too small for what I needed. The clerk tried to sell me a canning set instead. I told her I already had a canning set, I needed a stock pot. LOL
Oil lamps/supplies: inventory was way down. They just had a few decorative and only about 5 mantles. I bought what was left. No lantern oil.
There was no Pioneer Princess stove! They had some Baker's Craft stove that was Amish-made, but it is not made anything like the Pioneer Princess. I did ask the clerk if they had stopped carrying them, and he told me they were just out of stock until mid July.
The point is they were just out of a lot of things that weren't 'decorative'/touristy. I'm sure they are having the same re-stocking issues of everyone else due to Rona. (BTW, they do ask that you wear a mast, but very few had on masks.) They asked that social distancing be observed, but they were too crowded for that.

I've read where several customers have recently been disappointed with them. Out of stock and backorders (which is probably not their fault, due to several reasons) is the main reason, coupled with ever-shifting answers on orders they said they could fulfill.

I get that they are out of stock on a lot of things because of shut downs in manufacturing. It's just getting so commercialized and touristy. The things that they are known for (i.e. off-grid items) were ALL gone. They didn't even have any Lavario laundry systems. It's hard to explain....but the things they were out of were the things I wanted to look at. LOL

It's just like seeds and baby chicks. Everyone is stocking up on things. The weather service is also predicting a terrible year for hurricanes so maybe that has something to do with the off-grid items being out of stock. The pandemic also has many people looking into moving to the country so maybe those people are stocking up on the stuff us country people use too! A realtor I know said that people wanting rural property is up by more than 30% over this time last year.
Sorry you couldn't get what you wanted, but I hope you enjoyed yourself anyway!

It's not just them. I live "here" ( near Lehman's) and all the stores that carry "farm stuff" are low. Almost all of them ship, so it isn't only local customers they serve. And with many shipping companies going "essential needs first" things not declared essential are not shipping (even though must of it I would call essential). Shelves are empting and nothing is coming into replace it. Manufacturing is slowed.....its just going to take a year or so for things to recover.

ohiodreamer, 100% agree. We live close to a tourist town and almost no one is there. Stores are closing (after re-opening) and may not return. I think this is just the tip of the biggest iceberg ever. My plantings are almost 50% more than last year as I think we will need it.

I think they carried more useful homesteading-type stuff before they expanded. It’s not just Lehman’s either. Ohio Amish country is now owned and operated by corporations. It really is sad. Shops in Berlin full of foreign-made stuff. Corporate-owned restaurants serving “Amish-style” meals. Amish country theater-What?!!

I aLways dreamed of a trip to Lehmanns when I lived in the sticks. Now I live in condos so gawking over wood cook stoves isn’t the same.

Mail order recently prompt service. Very happy with the dough hook I got myself- so much so I sent some to daughter and friend. How did I make it 50 years baking and just now find this tool?!?
