A fun fact About Angle the darling baby cow with horns... it would seem, when she is in heat, she SCREAMS all day. She does not moo. She screams...as if someone is trying to pull one of her ears off. All day. All night. Along with that she is rolling in the mud, shoving her face in manure piles rubbing her stubby horns in the ground digging ruts, using them as can openers to tear stuff off the stall walls and in once case... the actual wall. Plus she wants to jump on me and kill me. I have to use a pocket cattle prod to make the word "no" have some meaning. if she sees it and hears the word NO...she seems to have learned to cool her jets a little. Still, on her special day of the month she requires at least 3 or 4 zaps to remind her what no means. Sometimes, I swear she likes it.
The next day she is back to her normal friendly quiet self.

Any way she could get hormone treatments like used in (sorry) feed yards? Maybe spay her. I've never heard of that since such cattle are dealt with differently.
I used to know a woman who had a Brown Swiss milk cow. They eventually had to send her down the road because she would go after the hood of vehicles and damaged several.

Glad to see the picture & video. Sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. My prayers are with you. Also sorry about loosing your cows. Yery sad year for your family. When we had cows one of my favorite heifer a Hereford would come after me every time she was in season. Very 1st time I was in the pasture with a wheel barrow she jumped that wheel barrow & started after me. Scared me to death. She didn't get me but she tried. She was such a sweet cow. We got a bull & she was ok & when we didn't have a bull she would want me. She would also mount my horse. Dusty would kick her & she would quit. I kept track of her cycles to stay away from her. She was such a good Mom. She would bellow at the other cows to take of their babies. She also nursed a few calves that the Mom's wouldn't take care of her. Keep the stories coming. Thanks

Yes cows can be spayed, very common in the big range areas out west when yearling heifers are summered on grass before going to the feedlot, The vets that do it are very proficient at it, finding one anywhere else that regularly does it is next to impossible. I don't know if there are any longterm problems with going that route.

Thanks, allenw. I knew mares were sometimes spayed but I've never been in the West long enough to get into that sort of conversation with a rancher.
