Now that school is out, dd2 and I plan to tackle the house for deep cleaning, one room a day for the first week in June. Tomorrow is the kitchen--my cupboards need cleaned out and wiped and I'm afraid to even look under the sink! I plan to match bowls and lids and toss anything without a match, especially disposable stuff like gladware. The stovetop and oven need done, too. It will be a busy day.

When I get tired of looking at all these family heirlooms, I pack them in containers for the kids. Like their grandmother now deceased collected angels and she had a number of them that were very precious to her. I have kept them, but don't particularly like having a collection of angels to clean. So, the other day I took two rubber maid containers and carefully split the angel collection in half and packed them in the boxes for the children to have when they leave the nest. I put a note in each box with the story behind the angels as my MIL told me and why they meant so much to her. I had a little extra room in the boxes so each child also received a set of pyrex mixing bowls. This makes the third box for each child. They will be well set when they start out on their own and I get to not have to fool with all this extra stuff anymore.

I had some nice things nobody wanted from MIL apt couldn't pitch or donate to ARC...just stashed in a box. Found out yesterday someone is having a benefit yard sale for someone I know and they want donations...I will gladly donate to that! And this will give me some room in my anything tote.

Today was the first time in a long time that I really had energy and follow through, so I was able to get my bed stripped, mattress flipped around, and fresh sheets on for bedtime tonight. I cleaned and straightened much of my bedroom and bathroom, did multiple loads of laundry including throw rugs and bedding, did dishes and counter tops - put away a lot of stuff that's been left out, rearranged some of the pantry, made stuffing to go with the chicken and gravy I made yesterday, put another chicken carcass in the stockpot to simmer up for broth, swept floors, and lots of other little things that I've let slide. Some of these things were Abby's jobs, but she's been slipping in the thoroughness of her work, so I really needed to get in that kitchen and deep clean. I also got another down pillow and a flat sheet bleached and washed - part of the stuff I bought at Goodwill Outlet a few months back. Did I mention I haven't had much energy lately? It feels so good to be ME today! I also worked on my shopping list - it's about time to make another Costco run, as well as maybe going Goodwill Outlet shopping while I'm down that way.

Woke up at 7am this morning after a decent night's sleep for once. Found out my dd had a dentist appointment this morning (I really thought it was on Friday), so today had to be a town day. Got a load of laundry going before we left, and hit the feedstore for layer pellet on the way there. Did some grocery shopping before and after her appointment, too, and actually got ALL of the groceries put away as soon as we got home. Switched the laundry to the dryer and have done 2 more loads since then. All the bedding I took off the bed yesterday (including mattress pad) is now done, along with the rest of the small area rugs. Did a little more straightening up in the pantry and in my room before I tuckered out. I think I'm going to go to bed early tonight - I"m tired and a little bit sore (probably partly from unloading a small freezer from my car this morning). Slowly, but surely, I'm working my way through the messes I've been ignoring for months while I was in a total funk.

Good for you, manygoats! You're on a roll now. I've not been able to get as much done due to pain issues, but dh was an angel and cleaned the stovetop for me. Someone here mentioned using the magic erasers so he tried that and it really did a good job on the stove. I have been able to keep up with dishes and laundry and finally got all the floors swept. Big dog sheds and we have hardwood, so I'm always finding dust/hair bunnies in the corners. Little dog got a bath, which always involves mopping the bathroom floor afterwards. LOL!

Monday, I met a young woman from my Facebook yard sale group and gave her four boxes of books. They were all good and some looked like new. I was selling most of the them on eBay, but books are not good sellers there. People can get the same books on Amazon for a penny. Still I would sell one now and then. Last week, I said to myself, "No more. I am getting these books out at one time." I listed them and she wanted them immediately. I took them right to her house as she did not have a car and wanted to meet me at the grocery store with a stroller. I said I'd bring them to her. I was afraid she wouldn't show up. Boy, did that give me a lot of room!
This morning, I spent a few hours upstairs organizing my canning jars. I keep them in Rubbermaid containers and I had the habit of running up there with ones I had just emptied and washed and just sticking them one of the containers where they'd fit. Not organized at all! Now they are in containers according to what size jar and what size mouth they have. I can just take a whole container down when I am in the process of canning. As soon as I can get down to the cellar, I will get it cleaned up so I can move the canned jars with food in them down there. After I fill the empty jars during this canning season, I will then store them down there too. It has been mess since I wasn't able to use the cellar. DH has fixed the wall, put a whole new foundation wall in and now everything will be safe down there again.

Today I tackled the stacks of clothes, coats, and linens in my bedroom. I now have sacks to go to Goodwill, to my ddil and my dd's, and a bag of rags to rip up for rug making. I got the floors swept (ugh, between the cat and down comforters/pillows, there were plenty of dust bunnies), and quite a bit of the room all neat and tidy. Washed the rest of the rugs and hung them on the line, washed my down pillows and tumble dried them - so comfy and fresh again. The laundry is finally caught up again. Worked on my pool outside and picked up clutter. Bit by bit, baby steps!

I moved into my grandmother's apartment after her passing and it was still loaded with her stuff. I love having most of it (I have divested myself of some it already). I especially enjoy her kitchen stuff since I spent so much time with her in that room. Be sure to let your kids know it is OK to get rid of some of those things (if that is alright, if not be prepared to take them back). I learned after burying 8 family members in 5 years that it's OK to keep something of sentimental value but that not everything that belonged to someone else you loved has to be kept. I'm also pretty sure I just worded all of that pretty clumsily. LOL

So slowly I have been getting rid of the excess either by making a box for the children or selling it or donating it. Now, that I have made some serious progress I appreciate the things that I have kept even more. Blessings, Kat

Working on the fridge today, and the master bathroom. For Christmas, I am going to make control journals ala flylady for my kids. Need to work on mine.
Anyone keeping a control journal? I TRY to use it in the week's zone because you really see things while doing these different tasks. That's what is so great about flylady, you are always going to different tasks and eventually you really get to all areas of your home.

My dh is disabled and spends his days in his recliner wearing sweats in the winter or shorts in the summer so I went thru our closet and pulled out most of his jeans and dress pants to donate. Called friend who has 6 adult sized sons and she said one wore that size. I've had two bags of jeans sitting in my office for a month and today ds came by to borrow $'s so I asked him to deliver the jeans on his way home. I then hauled my extra sewing machine to the basement so have a lot of floor space opened up and was able to clean in here.

I now have a list for "odd ball" things to clean - such as the filter in the dehumidifier and Aprilaire (humidifier). No one sees how dirty they are but both units work better when cleaned.
We keep a list of fall "to do's" as well as tools/supplies needed for the tasks. Always better to have what you need when you get on the roof to clean the chimney!
I do need to add cleaning the range hood (or whatever you choose to call it).
Come March, our upright freezer is usually pretty empty. We transfer the contents to the freezer in the kitchen, defrost it and pull it out to vacuum behind it. We also try to pull out the frig twice a year (4th of July and New Year's Day) to vacuum/clean behind it.
