Just a quick note on what's been happening of late.
And then there are the heavy-duty pipe bridge supports that have been placed across the creek by the guy with
the rented mini-excavator; both he and the machine are now gone, but we made a lot of jobs a bit easier because
it was here and available at the time. Will be looking for a local sawmill and see what it will cost to cut enough 8' x 3"
planks to cover the 16' long platforms and then will have to haul in fill on both sides of the approach to it.
Should be able to hold anything I dare try to get across the roadway made of swamp muck.....so three wheelers or
quads will be no problem. A tractor to do the mowing or raking and perhaps a small truck.... we'll see how that goes.
Oh yes, one other thing.....managed to get one of those lamanated header beams used in modular homes, it was about 36' long
and 2' wide, but used a chainsaw to get it cut down to 24' long and then hauled down to the pond on the near side of the island
and then slide it across *(using that previously mentioned mini-excavator) and we now have a sort of temporary walkway/bridge over to it.
*(A bit bouncy, but hey, it was FREE!!!)
The goats discoverd it the 2nd or 3rd day after it was installed and have made short work of the weeds/grass that had been growing there. Still.....as I said,
it's temporary, as the other steel pipe bridge support that I'd bought at the on-line auction is intended to become the permanent foundation to be used here.
However, since it is only 16' long and the span needs to be at least 24'.... will have to do some splicing/welding to make it work.
I have the necessary heavy-duty 4.5" pipe, but will have to either find someone to do the welding or get around to doing it myself.
And then, we'll have to figure out a way to slide it across.....
