The top photo is of my Saanen doe Maia nursing Ellie's (Boer) baby. The next is of her nursing her own two boys. I dam raise the kids if at all possible, and have sold youngsters at the auction. This year I have a bunch of doelings so some might be sold privately. I just thought this picture was sweet. I have another doe that will feed others babies, but only if she is on the stand and fed some grain. All the mamas get along, all the kids play together, everyone is feeding their babies (own or otherwise). Hope my luck holds out!

Lol! That's kind of like it was in my neighborhood growing up! If my mom wasn't feeding us kids, the neighbors moms were! We were always at a different house, our neighborhood was very transient, though we all lived there for years!!

LOL! Yeah, Trub loves to feed ALL the kids. She usually prefers her grandsons, but this year, she has been feeding Nomo's buck and doe, which helps a lot, as Nomo is not out of the woods yet.
Nick said he saw Trub feeding one of Neve's kids, but I don't think that happens too often.

My family lines would often nurse each others' kids - my LaMancha doe would nurse her own kids and her grand/g-grand kids, while my Nubian doe would nurse HER kids and grandkids, but the two lines wouldn't overlap. Funny how even though they were all raised together, the mommas knew who was "family" and who was just the roommate, lol.

I have a saanen doe who lets everyones kids nurse. Which is funny because she rejected her first kids and would not let them nurse, the next year she just decided to let everyone nurse!

I have a saanen doe who lets everyones kids nurse. Which is funny because she rejected her first kids and would not let them nurse, the next year she just decided to let everyone nurse! Ah, first fresheners! I had three 2 year old first fresheners this year. Two were slow to let their kids nurse. And if there is any commotion at all in the barn they simply wont feed their kids. I leave them alone with their kids in a quiet stall and try to spy on them between boards : ) They are both feeding their babies fine now. The third FF had her twins this morning. She's like an old hand at it. She is doing everything she can think of to get them to nurse. standing real still, squatting and guiding them with her nose. And she is so gentle and patient! I am very thankful she had twins and not triplets. One of the other FFs had triplets and I am having to supplement one baby with a couple of bottles twice a day. Goats are so much fun!
