If you happen to have one in your area. I gotta admit, their store layout drives me bonkers! I'm the kind of person who wants to run in, pick up exactly what I need and get outta there ASAP. I always get lost in Ikea ... (it probably doesn't help that I have *no* sense of direction.) Also, I think their made-up Swedish names for their products are cheesy. That said, they DO have some neat stuff. And bargains! I got some really nice pillar candles there yesterday (they're "Vifts") on clearance for $1.99. Similar candles anywhere else would be $5-10. And I have two Ikea duvet covers that have held up really well through many washings. One is paisley, while the other is black-and-white toile. Two of my favorite looks ... *swoon* So Ikea is a mixed bag for me, I guess. Oh, I love their Japanese paper lanterns, too.

No. Never bought anything there or know anyone that has. Too modern (new) for us. Looked twice, once with DS when he built his cabin, once with DD right after she got married 2 years ago and they were wanting to change a few things in the family home that she now lives in. She decided what was there was better quality and good enough with a little touch up....James

We went once, DH had a panic attack halfway through the store and we couldn't find an exit. We've never returned.

LOL KT, not meaning to laugh at your husband's plight, but pretty much the same thing happened to me the first time I went there! I actually stopped an employee and said, "Umm, how exactly do I get out of here?"

Period. Which is kind of funny (not in a haha way) because out of all of us she is the most easy going. My other sister loves, loves, loves Ikea and goes EVERY chance she gets. They both live within an hour of a store, though different stores. The closest one to me is about 4 hours. I've never been.

I love Ikea use to stop by after work when traffic was stopped and go look (about once a week for years) nearly everything I have came from Ikea if you stick to the higher end things in the store you get fantastic quality
also there are higher end Swedish furniture stores out there, and I like them as well

You could always shop Ikea on line. We have one about 35 minutes away, by the airport. But I've never been to it. I'm not much of shopper and from what I've seen of the layout- or "heard"- it would drive me bonkers. I like to be swift with my purchase, after I've researched it to death.

I have been there once. They had a birch drop leaf table that I wanted for a cutting table. Why drive all the way down there? For a $200 table they wanted another $200 to ship. Of course, they want you to wander around and around the store and buy more.
I really don’t like most of their stuff.

I went to Ikea once - at least 10 years ago. Lived in southeastern Wisconsin at the time, and went to one in northern Illinois. I bought exactly one thing - a cheese grater with container. Let me just I LOVE that grater, still use it all the time, and it's held up great. And it was pretty inexpensive. They had some interesting stuff, but I always seem to have too much stuff. And the furniture isn't exactly my style.
My son and daughter in law love, love, LOVE Ikea. Lots of stuff in there new home is from Ikea, furniture included. They're pretty happy that an Ikea will be opening (next year?) in southeastern Wisconsin. And I might go to Ikea again when that one does open, since we're down there a lot visiting family. I don't think I'll take dh with me though. The man loves gadgets, and I sort of remember Ikea being Gadget Central.

I've sworn never to set foot in one, and not to buy anything either. We do have some ikea stuff, that he had before I came over. with one exception (a small set of steps) it's terrible quality, falls apart in a few years and sags/ won't take any weight (obvioulsy I'm only talking about furniture) I'm also not keen on the styles, and much prefer to buy old solid furniture, I only want to buy something once.
As A little aside the doormats are named after Danish towns. A fact that gets a bit of complaining here!

We use to go to the one in Budapest. We went for "entertainment" value. more then shopping. In the 4-5 trips we took we probably didn't spend more then the equivalent of $50 total. I wasn't to into they "style" and I didn't care for the quality of the products. Neat ideas....but done with cheapish materials. BUT then I grew up not far from "Amish country" so my opinions are jaded.....don't like press board covered in paper.

I love when other people (you know the ones who have to redecorate constantly) unload their Ikea stuff for a fraction of what they bought it for new. I'm all about that.

We have never been to IKEA, but planned on going twice just this month. It's an hour drive away from us and the two times we drove there, just looking at the massive store made me tired, so I told hubby to just drive me home. Both times we enjoyed some authentic Indian food which we have been unable to find in the Springs, so drove to Denver for. I digress- so we do plan to go sometime in the recent future to get this crib for our baby. From my research this crib seems to be the only affordable option for mamas wanting a non-toxic finish on their crib. All the other unfinished or non-toxic finish cribs are in the $900+ range. ohiodreamer, you might find this interesting! While reading up about this crib I found out that this crib while it was always made with 100% beech wood, the part where the mattress sat used to be done via particle board. Green mamas still flocked to purchase this crib for the last few years and just replaced the particle board with PureBond Birch Plywood cut to their desired thickness. I was surprised when I looked into the crib recently and found that IKEA now themselves have replaced the particle board where the mattress rests with 100% beech wood themselves. The cost of materials seems to have gone up yet the crib has been on sale for the last few months. While you could be right, my tiny sample of this one crib has proved opposite to what you have found, thought you might find that interesting

IKEA was one of the first places I went after moving back to civilization after 23 years in "da woods." I felt like I was in The Jetsons or something. I did get some stuff for the RV (which we're now living in) there. It's great for finding things that really save space. The stuff is kind of cheap but holds up a lot better than I thought it would. We got a nice-looking lightweight folding step stool that mounts on the wall, to replace the heavy wooden chair/stepstool combo that came with the RV, a bunch of little shelves that go in the cabinets so we can stack the cans up, and a thingy for stacking the cookie sheets, cutting boards etc. Those were good deals - but some of the stuff that looks like a good deal at first really isn't. Like those magnet things with the magnetic spice bottles that stick to them....after you buy the magnets and the bottles you're looking at a lot of money for a spice rack, and the spice bottles don't even have shaker holes in them. You'd have to spoon the spices out....no thanks.

I have been to one way south in Denver. I bought two shelves for the kitchen that holds cups and such and love them. But the store is not really me. My husband said one visit was enough. I had looked everywhere for some shelves before I went there, too.

I decided to save some money on my pretty glass spice jars - but have been having a horrible time finding the right magnets for them.

I like ikea... they have lots of odd stuff cheap.
They sell stuff in the stores they dont sell in the catalog and its an opportunity to buy and resell it on Ebay. My sister used to do that and make a decent return. People are willing to buy the stuff at a markup because they dont have a store handy.

Rachel, you know you have to secure that crib to the wall? You know, possibly you can have a local cabinet maker make you a similar crib.
Also, Federal guidelines require crib mattresses to have a fire retardant in them. Now they know that the fire retardant is responsible for the sudden high incidences of crib death back in the 70’s, 80’s. You have to put a special sheet/liner on the mattress.

LOL, I have to give Ikea credit for marketing! I was perusing their catalog and noticed an ad for their cafe on the back cover. Accompany a pic of a mouth-watering sandwich is a caption which says, "Our new smoked salmon sandwich is made by using all of the prime meat from each fish -- not just the fillets." In other words, "We take the scraps that are left over after removing the fillet, form them into a patty, and make you think you're getting something really special!" Because according to Ikea, their sandwich is "sustainable." That may be the coolest use of a buzzword since Panera rebranded its soup as "broth bowls."

I'm not at all into Ikea. I was in one once with my mom, who insists that because it costs less it is a bargain and she must have it...I thought most of the stuff in there was kind of junky, and I am not into the furniture style they seem to have so much of. It's too contemporary and bland looking to me, but that's just my opinion. I tried to find an exit so I could get my shopaholic mother out fast, but ended up in the danged store for almost 2 hours before I finally got her close to the exit. I will never go back to an Ikea, it just isn't my cup of tea.

not sure I'm posting right. My daughter and son in law gave me an IKEA entertainment center. That thing is heavy. I finally got it up the steps and through the door. I like it:)
