Decided to drench the sheep today before we get some nasty weather. I only drench when I have to, but they've been on fairly short pasture for a good couple of months and I noticed some dirty bums starting to appear, and a few soft 'plops'. Got them into the shed and looked for my single dose drench syringe. This is a brilliant wee plastic tool with a brass drench nozzle and I prefer it to my large man-hand sized drench gun which involves tubes into large containers etc etc. Couldn't find it anywhere, so decided to use an ordinary syringe rather than postpone the task.
The syringe is the sort you put a needle on the end of, so it had a very short nozzle and, being a 20mm one, it was quite large in circumference. Talk about a performance! Trying to slip something this size in the side of a sheep's mouth is a job and a half and I ended up with more on me than in the sheep, and much drooling of pink goo down the side of their lips as they tried not to swallow. Fortunately I put extra in the syringe than necessary to allow for this, but needless to say I've just gone online to replace my proper special one!
There are definitely times when 'make-do' really doesn't cut the mustard... But mission accomplished. Eventually.

And the minute you replace it, you will find the other one. At least that is my usual scenario. Doesn't hurt to have two.

@kiwifarmgal, Thanks. For the chuckle. Even with the proper drench gun, I still get on me and down the sheep. What do you use for worming?
I normally use I ivermectin. But sometimes use valbazen.
