I weave a long piece of steel on one edge and pull a little at a time.

I have no idea what is "best" but I have taken a 2x4, wrapped the end of the fencing around it til it over lapped, stapled the fence to the 2x4, put tow chains towards top and bottom and used the truck to pull til upright against the posts.
I've always read never to do this but it is always what I've done.

I've wrapped the end round a strong pole, then used a strap with a ratchet, (don't know their actual name, the ones you use to tie a load down with) fixing the other end to the strap to something imobile, car tractor tree etc.

My fence building skills are not going to win any prizes, but they work for me. First I measure how far I want the fence to go. I am not strong enough to manage a long piece of fence, and I live on the side of a hill, so I only go about 10 ft at a time. I attach one end of the fence to my t post, then I weave a piece of metal bar through the other end of the piece of fence. Next I pull the piece of fence tight with a 'come-along' that I have attached to the metal piece and something heavy (a tree, the truck or an extra t post).

2 pieces of 2"x (hardwood is best) or 1 wood 1 flat steel and bolt through in 6 places sandwiching the wire. Chain with hooks on both ends, 1 top, 1 bottom, center of chain to another chain to tractor or truck and pull a little at a time, this allows the top or bottom to be independent to tighten evenly. Someone out standing the wire up and making sure wire doesn't get caught on something. Do not over tighten, do not make the little crimps straight, just start to straighten out. Staple every wire to post and wrap around the post, winding wire back onto itself....James

I'm a little late to this thread but what the heck. I sandwiched the field fence between two 2x4s with 6 bolts (washers, locknuts and nuts) I then attached a chain which was hooked to a come along which was chained to a telephone pole (the stationary object could be a tree, a tractor, whatever.
