I really am not braggin', just wanting to help get the conversation rolling and opening the door for folks to add their projects here. This is a pair of slippers I just knit and "fulled" (felted). I used Lamb's Pride worsted wool in Peacock colorway held double and two circular US size 11 needles. Washed the slippers in two laundry wash cycles zipped up in a lingerie bag along with a load of jeans and a pair of rubber shoes for good abrasion. I will need to trim the hairy parts before I needle felt them. I wear some version of these slippers all year long - we have rustic wood floors and these are thick and warm. The ones i wear in summer are thinner and have a little less coverage and are "cooler". I am planning to needle felt something on them in the way of decoration and I will save them for a fiber retreat I have coming up in April.

Wind in Her Hair , burrr, that's cold! It's been up & down here. 60's yesterday, then 30 this a.m. Crazy weather. All my daffodils & many other flowers are coming up. It's exciting because I can't remember where I planted all of Megs flowers from her house. Many of her herbs are coming up, many of which I don't even know 🤔 The lemon balm is popping up & comfrey. The only other I know is the lavender, which isn't up yet. Good to see you here!!!

Good to be here!
I am so thrilled that you have lasting reminders of your beautiful girl's love of flowers and all things out of doors. She was a special one, that one. I think of her often.

Wind in Her Hair, Meg and I, then Dan and I brought her apple trees, pear, lilacs, cherry trees home. There's a lot more than that! Her woodpeckers are still with us, almost every day. Such a peaceful sign. Yes, she is a very special one & thank you ... Has Woody been around your home?

Haven't seen my friend Woody in a while. I suppose they are busy readying their nests and cubby holes for raising their springtime families.

Your slippers are wonderful. I have always wanted to make myself a pair. How do you know how large to make them so they will fit after felting? Is that information in the pattern? I have a ton of home spun wool that I think would make great slippers.

Wind in Her Hair, love your slippers. I have a pattern for a brimmed hat that is knitted and felted. On my to-do list.

Your slippers are wonderful. I have always wanted to make myself a pair. How do you know how large to make them so they will fit after felting? Is that information in the pattern? I have a ton of home spun wool that I think would make great slippers. yes, it is all in the pattern and sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error. Depends a lot on the yarn - I have used a very lightly spun bulky single and I have used two worsted weight singles held double. I have even used two, two ply worsted yarns held double. The lightly spun singles seem to full/felt more readily and more quickly in the washing cycle. And it does depend on the size of your washer, the size load of wash you are washing with it, the weight of the laundry, how much detergent you use, and how many loads you send it through. It normally takes mine 2 full cycles and sometimes a third. Also, anytime my slippers get soiled or start getting a little loosey goosey, I wash them again, pull them out every now and then to check on them, and slip them on while they are still wet for a custom fit! The pattern I used here was "Duffers Revisited", a VERY popular pattern with SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many sizes and variations, I think it is 11 pages to print or something crazy like that because it covers every size and several ways to knit them- circular or flat, wide width or regular, etc, the pattern price of $5.23 is well worth it. I have made literally a dozen from a baby size to my husband's size. www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/duffers---revisited

Gosh Wind in Her Hair, You are such a showoff girl!! Just kidding!! Those are beautiful! We used to do "craft shows" with our stained glass/mosaics, etc. At one of the shows our booth butted up against someone who does the felting thing. Such beautiful things she had for sale... Hats, scarves, mittens, slippers... We were very impressed in regards to the work/talent those items took... I do so enjoy seeing your posts with pics of your creations! Take care, Mari

thank you, everyone for the kind words.
If it were not for the help of many kind mentors online, I would not be knitting up a storm today.
I am NOT a very good knitter, but I am bound and determined!
And I have learned to push myself out of my box and into areas I am not comfortable with so that I grow in my ability and skill. And I REALLY enjoy making truly utilitarian things that save me money and provide me handmade luxury I cannot afford.

I have tried felting but can't get the sizing right. Either everything's too big or too small after the felting. I have one hat that has been washed a dozen times without getting shrunk enough.

And I have learned to push myself out of my box and into areas I am not comfortable with so that I grow in my ability and skill. And I REALLY enjoy making truly utilitarian things that save me money and provide me handmade luxury I cannot afford. the trick is to stick with it and keep a close eye on it- even during the wash cycle. I take mine out of the zippered lingerie bag to check on it every 15 minutes. I even set a timer. If the "thing" you want to felt has remained wet, you can continue to try to felt it but if it has been through a cold cycle and then gotten dry- you might not be able to. All you can do is give it a warm soak, then make sure you are washing it with enough soap and ample jeans, tennis shoes, etc to really rough it up. You can always try felting it by hand on a washboard. And make sure the yarn you are using is NOT SUPERWASH, because that will NOT felt no matter what. The scales have been chemically removed so it will not felt.

I just tested this pattern to see if I like it and how it knits up. I am looking for a pattern for a couple of friends that want a hat and scarf. I did this Quick Cable Slouch pattern www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/quick-cable-slouch-hat in Snuggly Wuggly baby worsted yarn (holding 2 strands) to make it a bulky yarn. I did the ribbing on US 7s and the bonnet part on 11s. Knits up VERY fast and I love the pattern , but STILL is not slouchy enough. Looks like a green shower cap. Back to the drawing board

I taught Meg years ago how to knit. Basic, no fancy knitting. She knitted quite a few things and learned new stitches on her own. Maybe you just may inspire me Wind in Her Hair, to start something again. Lately while I watch the little TV that I do, I've been coloring in my adult coloring book. It's very relaxing to me. I'm coloring a barn and chicken scene now. I love the color green and it looks slouchy enough to me, but it's you that has to be happy with it. The lady wearing it looks very pretty too, BTW

You should be as those are lovely slippers, your work is so stunning.......I have often wondered if you hand made the sweater that you wear in your avatar? I think the hat is cute but is missing the little pom pom ball in the center.......then it wouldn't look a shower hat, LOL

I think the hat is cute but is missing the little pom pom ball in the center.......then it wouldn't look a shower hat, LOL The sweater I am wearing in my avatar is actually my husband's younger brother's sweater that was purchased by their parents on a family trip to western Canada. This is a Cowichan or Salish sweater knitted by a tribe of coastal indians. Before the tribe had access to sheep fiber, they used mountain goat and dog hair from the now extinct Salish Wool Dog (or Woolly Dog) . That sweater is almost 50 years old. These sweaters are why I have my Indian Head Spinner spinning wheel. The wheel in the middle with the cast iron drive wheel is the Indian Head Spinner.

This thread is for sharing our projects, right? Here is a doll that I made for my BFF's daughter. Her oldest daughter just had their first grandbaby and I didn't want the 8 year old to feel left out or overlooked. She was amazed that I crocheted a doll, after she asked if I had made her she was speechless. And believe me that is no small feat for this child. lol Here she is when I was trying different types of yarn for her hair, those colorful little things sticking out of her head are my pins. And a picture of her at home with her new "mom". I also made her a little diaper bag with extra diapers and a changing pad. And a crocheted bottle, mini teddy bear and a gown with matching hat. The last picture was before I added the fuzzy hair, that's why she looks different. I plan on making a few more outfits for her for my BFF's daughter's birthday that is in May.

KyMama, those are adorable! One of the reasons I want to learn crochet is because how it easily lends itself to making round shapes for toys! Those are wonderful!

Thanks y'all. After spending pretty much all last year crocheting afghans for gifts I was needing to try something new. I'm finding that I enjoy crocheting toys much more than afghans. Unfortunately it's hard to find things to make for my son though. I'm currently working on an army general and tank pajama pillow for his birthday next week. Hopefully I can get them finished, it's hard to work on them when he's home with me all day. I can't tell you how many times I've jammed that little man down into a bag when he walks into the room. I'm sure he thinks I'm losing my mind. Wind in Her Hair, I'm sure you could learn to crochet. I wish I could learn to knit properly so that I could make more wearables.
