I saw the splits at my inlaws yesterday since we went for Mother's Day. From the outside they looked great with lots of activity. I'm going insane waiting for a month post-split to go by to see if they were successful. This is why I got into gardening and the natural lifestyle. Patience is my downfall and these hobbies force me to be patient. I'm picking them up Sunday if I can wait that long...maybe Saturday

I'm watching 3 hives where I garden. Two were always weak last year while the third one always seemed to have twice as many bees as needed. All were out flying around in March but no sign of anything in mid-April. I saw capped cells in the two that I looked into but not a sign of a bee. A couple weeks later, a screen-sided box was set up in front of each with about the same number of bees in each. Now all 3 have about the same number of bees coming and going. Haven't had a chance to talk to the beekeeper to find out what happened.

When I was a kid you couldn't walk barefoot in clover without a surprise. Nothing like that now. That part didn't much bother me but pollination was downright pathetic at times. My 3 main hives are in my backyard orchard and it's really made a difference. Now if I could figure out the stinkbugs and coddling moths I'd actually harvest some peaches. Edit: The moths are wreaking havoc on my apples and pears. It's because of the stinkbugs we've never harvested a peach.

The nucs from mating came home last night. They look great and probably weight around 30lb. It was an adventure getting them off my inlaws carport roof in the dark with my FIL shining the flashlight in my eyes trying to help.
I'd guess them to be loaded with locust honey since there are several in their yard. When I checked on them a little while ago they were bringing in pollen ( a very good sign). Next weekend I will put them in new boxes. Pictures will be posted, lol.
