Found my favorite 2 month old doe in an old hand dug well this afternoon. Dopey was totally submerged except for her head. She was very hypothermic and covered in stinky mud. I got her up to the barn and started rubbing her down, put 2 heat lamps on her. Ran up to the house and got towels to dry her off better. Poor soul was shivering violently and gritting/grinding her teeth and I think she was in shock or close to it (her eyes were slits and seemed unfocused). After about an hour of brisk toweling/rubbing her legs, belly and all over, she started to relax and the shivering stopped. She seems to have bounced back fairly well. Started munching on some hay that was near her and wanted her mom to nurse from. She's been shaking her head cause I'm sure there is water in her ears. I wiped them out with a paper towel and there was wetness. Naturally during all this I could not find the blasted thermometer anywhere. So tomorrow I'm going to go buy a couple to have in places that I can find them. What should I watch for on her if she should decide to get pneumonia? and what's a good drug for that? I do have LA 200 on hand. Also what about her ears? would cleaning them out with alcohol be a good thing?

www.tennesseemeatgoats.comLA200 is useful in pneumonia although Nuflor is better. Hopefully you won't need to worry about it. Poor baby. It was so lucky you found her in the nick of time.

She's eating good this morning. But she does have laryngitis, tries to "maaa" and only a few little squeeks come out. Hopefully the laryngitis is due to her screaming her head off yesterday. Besides the LA 200 I also have leviquin, cipro, and amoxicillin. Leviquin and cipro are courtesy of DH who had to come down with severe pneumonia last week. It's been rather eventful around here.

woolybear, Oh gosh, sorry this happened but really happy you found her in time, you did good with the treatment you gave her, eating good this am is a GREAT sign, checking her temps for the next couple of days would be good as that will tell you if pneumonia is coming on.....not sure where you are from? if you can keep her in the sun mother nature will absorb small amounts of water in ears, OR a heat lamp will do the same, if you can't get the Nuflor I would just use the LA200 if her temps start rising....good luck and I hope she has a full recovery...

LOL grannyg. Had to buy another thermometer because I still can't find my other one. Her temp this afternoon is 102. When I went down to the barn all the goats were going out to eat (in 91* temp, crazy goats), except Dopey she was sound asleep in the barn. After I checked her temp I had to walk her outside to find the other goats, she was having a meltdown about no one being near her.
