Where my gardening partner has a second garden, they have horses, a bison, donkey, kangaroo, and a half-dozen or so goats. She told me to save all of the cauliflower and other brassica leaves. When I was there a week ago, pulled a velvet weed and offered that to the goats. Didn't think that anything ate that but they did! Haven't figured out what treat to offer the kangaroo.

So late last week Charlie started coughing again. (2 days after he got the first shot he stopped coughing and was good for a few days.... but then it returned.)
So I called the vet and got a second shot of antibiotics. He got the shot on Friday. I heard him cough twice on Saturday and now nothing since.
He's doing good otherwise and starting to gain weight.
I don't think he likes being alone even with the attention he gets from us. But with his health condition right now I'm not sure it would be a good idea to look for a companion. AND I wouldn't want to add a friend until after he's castrated in a couple of weeks.

What antibiotic is he getting? Sone work better on goats than others.
Have you given thought to a probiotic after this last shot runs its course? I have no real basis for using them except I worry about goat's rumens and overgrowth of toxic bacteria. It's like Vitamin B complex. I think it is something that makes me feel better just having something to give. And since they are oral, it's pretty easy. My goats would suck it from the syringe.

The vet gave Resflor gold.
I hadn't considered a probiotic. Is it needed? If so, what brand/dosage? For how long?

I made up my own rules about probiotics. They come special forhoats in gel tubes, premeasured for dose according to weight. I wait til theend of the effective half life of the antibiotic, then gice a daily dose for 7-10 days. For your little guy, one tube should be more than enough for a number of treatments and the dosage is on the tube or jar. I think of it as a crutch to carry them until their own gut flora recoup but not as a permanent thing. Some include extra vitamins and minerals. I've never use resflo gold but did look it up. People seem to like it.

Charlie has gained 8 pounds since we got him 3 weeks ago. He's a little chow-hound and after about 90 minutes of grazing with me in the evenings (he eats, I don't) he's got a big 'ole belly. I can tell he's super full but he has that "just one more bite" drive in him. Kind of like at Thanksgiving or Christmas when there's so much yummy food and you're so full but you JUST HAVE to have another bite of cake.... and dip.... and cookies... Oh... and he's PLAYING! He gets the "zoomies" and jumps up on blocks or logs, hops down, runs around, hops up, hops down.... repeat. Its so much fun to see him improving.

I was really having a hard time with Photobucket last night. I was trying to add a new photo of him, but Photobucket wasn't cooperating.
I'm not a big fan of Photobucket. I might have to look into different options.

You'd think my own goats would be enough for me but I seem to need lots more photos of goats to be really content. I love horses but I love my horses. Pictures of other people's horses not so much. But goats... I'm addicted.
