Hula is our little alpine-ish semi mini bushwhacker goat, who lives with buster, her neutered brother. They are both about 6 yrs old, has always been in good health.
There is no way any bucks have gotten in the yard, and she has never been bred. Yet today shes full of milk on one side and plumping out on the other. Shes always had a tiny little udder.
We took milk samples and ran a CMT test, no trace of mastitis at all, both sides are clean. Her udder is almost hard, larger on one side than the other. Nothing out of the ordinary if she was a nursing mother who hasn't been milked. There is no blood pus or odd lumps. The larger side is a bit warm... but it is full of milk.
Is spontaneous milking of a 6 yr old doe odd? Buster has no testicles, he never has and he doesn't stink. He does act kind of bucky and does mount her a lot, but its been 6 yrs.... really.
Yes she is a bit fat. But she is well fed.
Should we be concerned and let it go/dry up or is this a sign of something bad? She doesn't act ill at all, she has a good appetite. She is fed a cup or 2 of Nobel goat chow once a day now as winter is coming.
We are clueless.... Halp!

comfortablynumb , sounds to me like she may have developed a precocious udder. I had one early on when I started with goats. Vet checked her and told us to leave her be and she'd reabsorb the milk. She did. In the meantime, we kept an eye on her and checked for signs of infection, etc. this might be of interest precocious udder

Thanks everybody! I really don't think she's pregnant; we have really good fences, there are no other goats in the neighborhood, and if Buster were able to get the job done, I'd think he would have shagged her long before now, lol.
Numb did a CMT (California Mastitis Test) on her this afternoon and it came back clear. I didn't notice any chunks in the milk or other abnormalities when I wrang her out!
She has been getting a pretty rich diet and is fat as a tick; think we'll cut out the pellets for awhile and see if she dries up.
It's funny because last night, Numb swore she was making a bag, and I was, like, "No way ... how can that be?" but he was right.

If she IS pregnant and far enough along to bag up, her back end should be a bit puffy and her ligaments softening up a little. Babies are on the right side, rumen on the left. Which side is she big on? shes fat on both sides... she kinda like a little black n white barrel.
