We are past the average frost date here, though two of my friends have reported ice on their water buckets last week. I've had nothing more than cold dew. Next week has one day (Next Saturday) predicted to drop to 37--we may get frost out of that if it drops toward morning. I may have to cut chard and pick green tomatoes.
How are you folks holding out? Anyone lost their garden to frost so far?

Not even a hint of frost to date, it's 76 degrees right now. Picked green beans, tomatoes and peppers today. They're calling for a low of 33 Wednesday evening that should do it.

We had one night get into the 30's. I covered, though not till 10PM. Some leaves on the green peppers got frosted, but I still have a half-row of basil. It's supposed to cool down, but not below typical temps for the most part. Come 11/3 there may be a 32' low and a few flurries. Usually a few fly by the middle of October. This is upstate NY, but not too far from Lake Ontario.

It frosted a little while we were gone last week. It took the color out of the beautiful red zinnia and turned the top of them brown. Only damage I have seen so far. The petunias are looking ragged from the rain and wind. I will cut all the flowers and turn them into compost. Tomatoes were cut off and hung upside down in the shop. Hoops have been put on the raised beds with fall gardens in them....James

The local news is telling us we may have a frost next week....about ready for the pecans to bust out of their pods, some are starting to fall...not many on our trees this year....and Hombre, the Longhorn, makes sure he eats all the ones that drop down at the barnyard...

We had a killing frost close to a month ago. Though if you go 10 miles in any direction from the south end of the Corona bog where I live most places haven't had frost yet.

Then I would move ten miles in any direction from where you live.

There is a little sign of frost nipping on the figs and okra. This morning was the coldest at 39 but frost is surely coming soon We also are past the frost date here , we may go to November.

No frost here yet, but the temps will be dropping tonight. Will have to bring some plants in, but hope that frost holds out a little longer for my luffa gourds!

Supposed to fall into high 20s this weekend. So pretty sure thats the first frost/freeze. Many years up here on the ridge, I get first freeze before frost. Cold air falls downhill. Those down in creek bottoms are ones that get frost first.

We are scattered all over the map. Hermit John is probably closest to me. I expect frost this weekend but "normal" according to the locals is mid October. I am sitting on a slope, about halfway down the hill, a quarter mile from an arm of Bull Shoals lake. This may account for my two-week advantage over the friends who told me they've already had ice.
Grannyg: I don't particularly miss Oklahoma, but I sure miss my pecan grove. I cut those trees out of the brush they were growing in, kept them clear and enjoyed the first harvests. They grew ten feet in the twenty years I owned them. And YES, the cows tried to beat me to them. One old fellow who had more money than he needed allowed his cattle to have ALL the pecans, saying that they enjoyed them as much as he did.

We too have gotten past that average frost date as well. There is however a frost advisory for us tomorrow AM. I'm heading out to the garden to pick what little tomatoes there are and throw them to the chickens for them to enjoy one last time and pick the rest of the sweet/hot peppers for us. May have to snag what I can as far as the parsley too...

They said maybe frost this weekend just maybe. We have our own microclimate here..... So though there are weather reports, with our town ..it doesn’t mean much. I am a mile north and others have frost when I don’t t . It rains here and not elsewhere. It snows elsewhere and not here....

Our first real cold front arrived at 4am this morning. Windy and cold all day. Highs only reaching the upper 50s. First freeze in low areas tomorrow. Brrrr.

I think I would have a matching piece of wood with the smile reversed to hang on him for winter.

I think I would have a matching piece of wood with the smile reversed to hang on him for winter. Thanks for the laugh - that was too funny - and it exercised my mind for just a moment imagining what it would look like!!!

I think I would have a matching piece of wood with the smile reversed to hang on him for winter. That is funny, but we love winter here in Northern Minnesota. So, no frowns for us.

LOL: A couple of chuckles here today. We got our first hard frost this morning, killed everything but the collards and perhaps chard and Chinese cabbage--that we will have to see. I'll be putting up green tomato chow chow next week---pulled them all, large and small, yesterday.
Cabin; Didn't Wind in her Hair come up there from Florida to join you? If so, moving from Florida to Minnesota takes a hardier girl than most.

She is a TEXAN through and through - and she can handle Minnesota cold and snow better than most Minnesotans.

Here in NE WA ST we had a heavy frost earlier this week. Went to bed last night with a skiff of snow and it's coming down again. It won't be a lot but will come and go over the next week or so. DH put the snow tires on the Subaru Wednesday. We have a plow blade for the tractor so we should be set.
