My elderly cat Porky has had fleas this fall. I noticed flea dirt and then pulled four off her at the beginning of the month, so I used the topical from the vet just 3 weeks ago on both indoor cats. I don't like that stuff, anyway, but is it working? She has longish hair and lots of under-fur, so I comb hera few times a week. I thought she was clear, now there's flea dirt again, and I just saw a live one but couldn't catch it. NO WAY is she a candidate for a bath. Other ideas? I'll give her another squeeze tube in a week, but I don't want to do that sooner than recommended.

You are probably seeing fleas again as the latest batch of eggs has hatched, that were laid before you treated the cats. Continue to treat them for a few months, at least. In the meantime I would wash all their bedding. If that doesn't work, flea bomb the house.
I hate to flea bomb due to the chemicals, but I hate fleas even more. As does my dog who has an extreme flea saliva allergy. Good luck!

It does say, "up to one month", though. I pulled 2 fleas off Porky yesterday, and guess that perhaps they were already logy from the poison, since catching them in fingers or comb isn't that easy. I'll keep after it. They sleep on furniture and in particular corners of the house, so no laundering, but I can vacuum thoroughly where they hang out more.

Advantage is my favorite "go-to" for flea control, but this year I can honestly say that NOTHING has helped keep them at bay. I have 5 dogs and 3 cats that I have kept flea treatment on since early spring, and I simply can't get above the infestation. I am waiting until it cools off a bit, probably this weekend, then I am putting my dogs out and my cats in my utility room with a tile floor and will stuff towels under the door in there...then I am bombing every room in my home except the utility room. I am going to give my dogs and cats Capstar pills, it kills all fleas within 24 hours, but usually it only takes about an hour to stop seeing live bugs.
After all of that, I will use the stuff from the vet that lasts for 3 months, which will bring us into the heavy winter months and hopefully fleas will die off outdoors and we won't have this issue come spring. Sigh.

The Advantage does work against flea eggs as long as the eggs are on the cat. If they are on furniture etc., they will hatch and then move to the cat when hungry. Sounds like the Advantage is working.
