It's already here in western NY Outside temp is 25'. Yesterday at this time it was above 50. The street is icy, there's about an inch of powder, and a brisk wind. Don't know the windchill w-o looking it up. My friend and I are skipping lunch out. I am fine driving in snow, ice not so much, and typically people need a few days to remember how to drive in wintry conditions.

Ever since 3 years ago when my whole yard was snow covered with ice on top, I don't go outside without my yak tracks on my boots. Wow, do they make a difference. No slipping or sliding with those on. My daughter bought us both a pair and I really don't know how I survived the winters without them. We too are officially cold here. Thirties today, wind chill in the 20's. Tonight is suppose to be in the low 20's and it's very windy. I was going to use my broom this morning, instead of driving ☄️🙃

if it matters, anyone trying to predict this can look at the solar activity
when the solar activity is high it makes a nice tight polar vortex on the pole
when solar activity is low it lets the polar vortex spread out and start covering were people actually live
seems to me that the delay time from solar activity to the weather change is about 1/4 to 1/3 of a year.
so I expect this sort of polar vortex actually inside the USA quite a bit this winter.

We had our first killing frost and snow flurries within a couple of days of each other. Weird! We were pretty well set for winter, but it's still rough when it comes on fast like that. Brrrr.
