I found someone that can help me built a coop this winter. I live in South Georgia. Never gets bitter cold here. All the coop plans I've found are so enclosed. Down here we need the ventilation. It's been over 50 years since I've had chickens. Any reason I can't built something like a big run in shed with two sides open. A door with nest boxes on one side and some roosts on the back wall. It might get down into the teens at night a few times a year around here. Could hang a covered roosting box I suppose.

I just now saw your thread Daniel ... I guess I can't be of too much help since I'm in northern Indiana. Although one thing I almost learned the hard way is to use hardware cloth over the windows - don't rely on chicken wire alone. As far as using chicken wire on an enclosed run (if you decide to go that route) - I don't see a problem. But where ever they are locked in overnight - I'd go with the hardware cloth. I must confess I don't know what you have in the way of predators down there. Just my little 'ole 2 cents.. The coons around here will work tirelessly throughout the night to gain entry. Fortunately, the bugger that almost made it in one of my coop windows was too fat. Several years ago, one of our neighbors lost multiple chickens in one night to the coons. His setup was in a barn with the chickens in a large enclosure made with chicken wire. Do hope you come across a plan that will suit your needs. And I do hope you will post pictures! ~Mari
