Right now I really want some Wheaten Marans. I have not been able to find any yet (that I can afford; that I can get just a few; and/or that are close enough to pick up). I'm still looking, though.
Next on the list, and the ones I will probably get first, are Buckeyes. I have never had them before, but have been reading a lot about them and they sound like a really good dual-purpose breed to have around the farm/homestead.
High on the list is Chanteclers. We live in Minnesota and this Canadian breed should be a good one to try.
Also high on the list are Cream Legbars.
Those are just a few because right now I can't recall many of the breeds I have been reading about. The breeds listed above are breeds I have not kept before. Below is a list of breeds which I have had before and would like to have again sometime-
Light Brahmas Bantam Cochins New Hampshire Reds Mille Fleurs (sp?) Partridge Rocks And probably some others I have forgotten about.
Which breeds are on your wish lists?

Just as soon as I get moved!!! My Mom tried to 'remind' me how much work they were and how she had to take eggs to work every day because we had so many. It went in one ear and right out the other! LOLOLOL

We have a couple of the dark guineas. Purple? Royal purple? Something like that. Such neat birds...weird and cool at the same time. You either love'em or you hate'em. I've never met any in-betweens.

I love guineas, but dh hates them. LOL I would love some Welsummers and some of the Marans. Not going to pay the price they want around here, and don't want to have to order a minimum of 15 just to get 3 or 4 birds. So I will be patient. If I am meant to have them, I will find them on my terms.

Meyer Hatchery won't know what hit them when I get there. I'm also thinking about a peacock and a few peahen.

Peacocks are sooo noisy! Seems I'm in the market for more chickens now. Coop mark 2 fort knox edition will be done in a week max. I'm leaning towards more boring egg layers though. but the idea of some meat birds as well is tempting.. I'm going to have to see if our new field fence is chicken proof I suppose. as if they can freerange I can have more! ( I doubt it is it's not built for holding chickens!) Maybe I can convince hubby that what we really want is a couple of laying ducks...

A farm near me started buying chicks & reselling. Oooooh boy, it's like Christmas in there! I held back and only bought 4 buckeyes, 2 light brahmas, one dark and one buff brahma. They have over 15 breeds, plus ducks, geese, turkey's, guineas, and pheasants. Plus they hatch their own red and black sex links......sooooo tempting

I want pheasants!!! I just ordered pilgrim geese. We can hardly wait for those. I have wanted them for so long. I want some Polish. They just look so funny to me and I think the grandkids would love them.

I think we might be raising some pheasants this year. I'll have to check with DH to see where we are with that project.

Right now,I want to get the d'Uccle back the way they should look like. To many people are selling Booted Bantams as d'Uccles and that is not the way they are supposed to look. Here was my breeding lines, before a predator got them all. Working on hatching out, some d'Anver eggs, Picking up chicks the end of the month too. Plan on working on my Lavender Ameraucana Bantams, they have such a wonderful sweet temperament, even the Rooster are super nice. Also on a long waiting list for some full sized Wheaten Ameraucana hatching eggs from a really good breeding line. Their eggs look like this...

She has a waiting list, but if anyone is interested in contacting this breeder about hatching eggs, let me know. Will give you her contact info. So I am pretty much working on the Chicken breeds I want. What I need is a couple more hen houses and runs!!

I stand corrected, Bergere. Yes, I meant d'Uccles. I have had them before and really liked them. Predators got mine last Fall, too We have a couple of incubators which we have never used. I am going to get them set up soon and do some practice runs. I have three Marans roosters and one Marans hen, which may be a cross between two different varieties of Marans. I also have 4 Welsumers, 3 Ameracaunas, 1 unknown, 6 Red Stars, and 8 New Hampshire Reds, all hens. IF (and that's a big IF) I can get some pens built in the barn before winter, I may get some roosters of each breed and try to breed some replacements. The roosters and the Marans hen are two years old, and the rest of the hens are 3 years old.

Glad you did not mind. Feel for your loss, it always hurts. Lost all my stock back in Oregon. Was heart breaking because I spent years building that flock up. If you want to get some good stock to start with,,, who ever Privett has a contract with... would buy their, Black Mottle, Millie Fleur and Whites from them. About the only place you can get good stock to start out from now a days. I have been searching for good replacement stock, since moving to VA. All I am seeing is badly bred d'Uccles, necks to long and thin, legs too long, have wattles (not supposed to see or have them)... they are booted Bantams. Sigh ~~ Big pet peeve I have. They should look like that young Roo I have in my photo. Short Bull neck, nice V shaped back, he had good foot feathers, but when you free range them, they tear them up badly... his muff and beard was getting pulled out by another of my Roosters. Going to start a new breeding program, but its going to take a few years. See you like Welsummers and Maran's too. Love their eggs. At least you have a barn to work with! Am starting from scratch... and my chicken addiction is getting a bit out of hand. LOL Doubt I will have any money to buy more used sheds with, until...maybe Fall. Will have to figure something out.... IF any of these eggs hatch. Using an incubator for the first time ever.... 3 days to go on the eggs in there... not sure if they will hatch or not? Have always used broody hens before this. Is hard waiting!!

Those were beautiful bergere . So sorry you lost them. I have lost so many to predators, but I just keep on getting more. LOL I think I need to stay out of Orschelns till they are done selling chicks. I had planned to raise 4-5 pullets and a rooster for my flock. Well so far, I have 11 roosters and 9 pullets. Nine or 10 of the roosters will end up in the freezer, but 2 people do not need 9 laying hens. The sad thing is I still want a Black Australorp and will probably buy a couple if I come across them. I am also looking for some duckling. I am beginning to think I have a sickness. LOL

I'd like to have some of the Cream Legbars and some type of Marans, maybe golden cuckoo. I can't have too many, there is no need.
I've been reading about quail too. I think I'd like to try some of the bigger breeds. Are the bobs really as agressive as people say? Cortunix quail are beautiful, even if they are half the size of the bigger bobs. Anyone raise Mountain quail?

Brown Leghorns and Rhode Island Reds, maybe some Cochins to work into a breeding project. Bantams, the d'Uccle's are hard to resist as well as adding some Cochins again. I like the games but they are expensive to get into and I only want them for their beauty, I'll have to settle for some game bantams some time in the feature.

They are very sweet and I really enjoy having them around. I also have 27 Guineas, a rather large bunch of mixed Bantams (Silkies, Cochins, Sebrights, etc). I would like to get Seramas someday, as well as maybe some regular laying hens like RIR for eggs to eat. I also have some Black Cochin Frizzles that I adore, they are stinking cute!
