It's a perfect mid-afternoon in May. Mid-70s, lots of sun, and low humidity.
Lovely to see and enjoy!

This is our fourth day of tornadoes. We have had a tornado everyday for the last 4 days. The tornadoes have been 15 miles or closer to us. Sunday is suppose to be our last day of tornadoes. Hooray!!!

We’ve been getting tornados up here for the past few days too.
But the good part is that we’re getting a lot of much needed rain along with them. Our main water reservoir was down to 20% of capacity before it started raining (over a week ago). I hear that some of the creeks are reaching flood stage around the area. I hope they’re the creeks leading into the lakes that folks get drinking water from.

Here I got over 9 inches of rain this week. Several paved road had high water closings and warnings. A major thru way in our area washed out. My road is hurting because the grader operator puts the gravel in the bar ditch making the road the ditch. It wasn't steady type rain. It came in torrents we call toad stranglers. I want to know who has been washing their truck. Oh well the new sport I've been learning this week is mud skiing. Put on rubber boots and hook up 2 dogs on leashes and just lean back and away you go.

Right now, it's raining. We're still a little over an inch below normal for the year so far - so here at least, rain is still welcome. As long as it's not too much at once. Dirtyfingers, that's a lot of rain for a week. Mud skiing, huh?

Here I thought we were into the summer dry but the fog has rolled back with a vengence the last few days. It makes a real difference . In foggy weather the ground stays damp, watering is rarely needed but when the sun comes out, the ground dries, and without rains which don't happen often here at this time of year, watering is needed.

It's suppose to get down to 37 tonight. Also it is suppose to rain Thursday through Saturday here. The weather has been crazy so far this year.

It was snowing a little bit ago. Not sticking to anything, melting on contact...but I do not like snow in May!

Here in (previously) drought stricken north central Texas, we're up to 9.46 inches for the month. Truly amazing and welcome. We got 1.33 inches today and are supposed to get more than that tomorrow. And no, you won't hear me complain about the mud!!

Dirtyfingers, that's a lot of rain for a week. Mud skiing, huh? Got a 2 day break and its supposed to start raining again for a week. can mud ski even up hill. My field is floating in some places. What I mean is no water puddles but the ground is so soft it is like wading in 2 inches of water. My artesian wells should return. Those are the gopher runs that come to the surface. I have a few sink holes where their burrows were. Also have a few ditches where the runs collapsed. I'll fill with compost and maybe some dog poo.

Compost is the solution to your problem. I don't mean just a little, I mean tons by the ton. I haul it home a couple tons at a time. I had problems getting grass growing. Dug a ditch and filled it with compost. You should see the grass. I will be doing more of this soon. I planted my garden in straight compost this year. My regular garden is half sand and half compost. Rarely water it even during the drought we had. My maters were still 7ft tall and produced into November.

We had 4 days of temps in the high 80s to low 90s. Lows in the 60s at night for a week. Today our high was only 53 with 39 tonight. Talk about a shock to the system !

Hard freeze warning for tonight. I'm looking at the flowering apple tree and wondering if it's going to make it. Glad I didn't get the tomato plants in yet.

Foggy right now. That usually means it's sunny up above. It will be low 70s here today, that's warm for us. lol. Our kitchen faces west, it gets too hot in the sun. I really need to get some blinds up before summer really gets going.

Got an inch in the morning and a break till bout 5PM or so and got 4 more inches by 10PM. I'm floating all over the place. Lots of my wood chip path washed pretty bad. Will be chasing them for a week. Probably get most of them back because they were caught by weeds. Drive way is basically unscathed though. That's sure nice. Couple neighbors weren't so lucky. One emailed me today begging me to fix her drive. No tractor work till my field dries out a lot.

We are now up to 13.41 inches of rain for the MONTH!! This is more than half of what we usually get annually. We've been so dry that I had one of our ponds dug back out last summer and we never even hit moist dirt while digging it. Here's what it looked like after we dug it out. Here's what it looked like after the last big rain. Haven't ever seen it back up into the pasture like this. A few days after the last big rain. My guess is that it's about 15-17 feet deep at the deepest part. Thankful for every drop here. Local lake is back to full after years of being closed to boating activities because it was so low. Lots of waterfront homeowners had their boats held hostage in the lifts for three years!! Sadly, some folks have had a terrible time of it. More tornados just to the north of us in the last few days.

Here in North Texas it is very wet. It is forecast that we will get another 5 to 7 inches this weekend. We live on a lake and we flooded last weekend. We haven't seen this but one other time in the 36 years we have owned this place.

Rain every afternoon here lately. Beginning to feel like I moved back to Florida and forgot. However, it is keeping our temperatures nice, although the humidity is high. Only a couple hours a day where we are feeling a little uncomfortable without the ac running. I refuse to start using it before June 1. Garden is growing like crazy and so are the pastures. Frankly, I am loving it.

After a week of rain (nothing like what Texas/Oklahoma got, this was just 3 inches over the course of 5 days) that put us from dry to above normal precipitation for the month, cooler and drier air is moving in. Way too cool though - freeze warnings tonight. I'd like the warmer weather back, please!
