The hood of my JD 140 needs a little TLC. I have not done much with fiberglass, I looked around YouTube. Everybody said that their product was the best or the comments said that their product was the worst. So I come here looking for some recommendations. One of the previous owners put a line of holes on both sides of the hood. The front of the hood is beat up pretty bad.
The other side the mounting holes have been broken out. So does anybody have any recommendations for a product and/or technique for fixing this?

Most auto parts stores sell body repair kits with the mat, tape and resins needed to to small jobs like that. They are pretty much all the same quality.
Smaller holes can be done with fiberglass tape and any epoxy like MarineTex or JB Weld.
Get some paper containers to do the mixing and only do small batches. The resins have a short work time before they set up and it's impossible to clean the tools and containers
Cheap paint brushes and plastic putty knives work fine for spreading.
You'll need various sanding equipment to get the desired finish before painting.
It's not too hard if you take your time and plan each step carefully before starting.
You can also use a putty like "Bondo" for some filler work.
Those smaller holes would be simple to tape from the back then pour full of epoxy. Get it set up level before you pour and you may not even need to do any sanding.
Plan on doing it in steps over a longer period of time rather than all at once and it will be much easier

Also, sand around the edges of any areas needing repair to get a good bond. "Feather" the resin there to make it blend in and reduce the amount of finish sanding required.
It's easier than my explanation makes it sound as long as you take your time and think it through.
I'm sure there are plenty of Youtubes that can walk you through various steps too.
You may need to make some cardboard backer forms to do those broken edges..

Bear Foot Farm, Thanks for the info. I will have to head to the auto parts / hardware store and see what they have. Sometimes it's hard to dig through all of the junk youtube videos.

In the mounting hole areas I would epoxy in some reinforcing pieces where the bolts go through.
You could use most any material to add some strength. One of the easiest would be a piece of plywood with metal washers at the bolt locations. Painting on a couple of coats of resin will seal it from the weather and lessen the chances of them breaking out again.
