OK, so my new goat was giving around a gallon per day. Since I have gotten her, production has dropped about half. She will not eat any grain while on the stand. I have never had a goat do that. She acts fine otherwise. Jumps right up to be milked & stands nicely just looking around while I do it. I'm hoping she will adjust & production will come back up some.

Free choice baking soda & minerals out. The feed is a slight change, but not much. Milk time is the same as it was. She is being bullied of course being the new girl, but does hang out with the other goats. I am picking her daughter up in a few weeks so hopefully a familiar face will help. She did come in the shed this morning for milking where as the past couple of days I had to go get her. That was a step in the right direction. They sure don't like change, do they?

SOmtimes, their production drops from the stress of moving to a new farm. Trub's went down her first year with us, but picked up after that.
This year, she's still recovering from meningeal worm, so what should be a great year (she's 7 years old) is really poor. But she's alive, and she's helping to feed her grandkids.
Hey! Do you think she's got someone sneaking milk?

Redfish, you sure hit the nail on the head! Even goats that haven't had to move to a new home and fit into a new herd can drop production if they don't like something you've changed. Add in the stress of being separated from her daughter/herd buddy, having to fit in to a new social scene, and a new home...yup, that can definitely trigger a huge drop in milk output. Hopefully, Wendy, she'll come back up this year after she settles in nicely and her daughter joins her. If not, she should have a normal lactation next year. (Probably not what you wanted to hear - sorry.)

I hope to get her daughter next week. She came from a huge herd, so hopefully she will settle into my small one. Her production has come up some & she did eat some grain today. Maybe there is hope after all!

Sounds like she is coming around. Have you tried alfalfa pellets or black oil sunflower seeds? We mix these into their grain ration on occasion to give a little variety and it seems to improve their intake. Should also improve output and the BOSS are good for their coats.

I do mix in alfalfa pellets. Usually BOSS too, but I didn't this time.
