.............Been looking at gensets <9,000 watts . Most come with a single 240 volt\30 amp twist plug and several 120volt\20 amp plugs . My RV doesn't use 240 volt , rather it is wired for 50amp\120 volt operation . Now I can plug my 4 prong\120 volt plug into a 240 plug and everything works just fine due to the way the master panel is wired . .............So , my problem is that most gensets under 10kw , Don't come with a 4 prong , 240 volt plug . And , there is NO WAY to capture the full output of the genset . So , I'm left wondering IF it is possible to remove the electricial panel , and wire in a 240 volt plug connected to the <Main> supply circuit before all the smaller circuits are wired in ? I realize that this setup would bypass any circuit breakers employed to protect the circuits . Your thoughts please ? , fordy

My gen set is 6,600 contentious out put with 8,000 surge . It has a 4 wire 220 . But you confuse me by saying your RV don't use 220 v then state you have a 4 wire 120v that you can plug into a 220 v outlet and it works ? Most all 120v plugs are designed to not cross plug for a reason . Main reason is to keep that blue smoke where it belongs .
One thing I found out about gen sets if it has any incorrect wiring it will smoke the GFI outlets \breakers for sure .I would never bypass the main breakers then sleep in that RV unless it was by the door with a minimum of forty smoke detectors

I assume he is running one leg off the 220, since he probably only has one buss in the breaker.
My 5500 has a 30 amp twist lock 220, really most newer gens will.
Unless its a Chinese special.
I have to wonder why you would need that much Juice in a RV?
If you do put a twist lock on you need to take power from the 110 outlets.
Each is on a separate coil. 110+110=220...
Sort of like 3 phase is 3 different coils.
Though if your not set up for 220, still won't do you much good.
If you just want a solid plug to draw max juice off one leg, just wire up your patch cord to only use one leg. that is three wires instead of four.
