I would like to recommend 'Sewing Green,' by Betz White. Just when you think you've seen every conceivable repurposing project, a new one pops up. I got this book at my local library. She has an apron pattern made from a mans shirt that is one of those 'why didn't I think of that?' type things. If my clothing still has good wear left in it, it goes to the thrift shop. But I've made rag rugs, totes, a blue jean rug, etc. from worn out clothing. There is something so satisfying about a quick, repurposed project that can't be beat, every frugal bone in my body feels good

I like to make stuffed animals from our clothes. I haven't had time to do it in a while, but hope to find some time to get back into it. I've got a whole stack of clothes waiting!

I try to reconstruct the clothing if possible. If not then it usually winds up being repurposed. I love making new clothing from old clothing though.

Whisper Wind Kat, it's great to hear about remaking clothes. Some of the WWII sewing books are full of making down men's garments for women and kids. Out of style made over. Love the Seattle Grunge Effect with warm parts sewn together, favorite is still hoody hood to flannel shirt. My leopard print pajama top is new, but it will be cozier when my pink sweatshirt gives up the ghost.
Home Fire, thanks for the post, will request our library get this book!

I found a sleeveless, button-down ladies top in blue gingham at a yard sale for a quarter. I sewed the bottom shut and cut off the extra length, inserted a coat hanger, and now have the most adorable clothespin bag.

Finally got serious about cutting down a T shirt instead of the usual just chopping off sleeves and collar at the stitching. Big gaping arm holes are still plenty cool, but I really couldn't stand their sloppiness anymore, so I used a tank top as a cutting guide with the bottom of the arm holes lined up and continued the shoulder all the way to the original shoulder seam. Way more room for any kind of neckline, I really didn't realize there's so much extra fabric. Here's the best part on this one because it's a tube knit - I cut the shoulder seam away and tied the ends, off with the hem at the bottom, and there is no stitching! Oh la, it is cool and decent at the same time. The shoulder seam could be done different ways too - remember the casing for a string tie? I'm going to be converting more T shirts to tank tops - a nice neckline is all you need under a shirt or jacket for summer. My black T shirts get faded at the collar and too tatty to wear, there's plenty of fabric at the bottom to make binding. That's quite 20th century as I understand it now though, unfinished knit edges are required by persons of a certain age.

Love it. I love repurposing and remaking clothes. I have a linen dress that is very eighties, but will make some great skirts and even a cool top. Have fun, Kat

I've made a few purses from the backs of the legs of worn out overalls. The fronts are usually too stained or have too many holes to use. I've also used GW dresses for purse lining and GW leather clothing for purses.
