I finally purchased an air fryer. Its a Farberware with the pull out basket. I bought it 2 days ago and haven't used it yet. I've read that it gets really hot under it so there should be a cutting board or tile under it; any experience with it getting too hot for the countertop? Also, do you use a perforated parchment sheet under your food or not? We love fried food but 1.I don't like the greasy mess to deal with & 2.Its unhealthy as a regular menu item. So any tips, experiences & opinions would be appreciated.

I have two air fryers, large one and a small. Both do good @ frying, especially chicken. I no longer use them as I now have my 2nd kitchen in use. I have a 5 burner propane grill that I use for chicken or other meats. To fry on I have a 36" propane griddle to use, so the air fryers have been mothballed.

No experience, just an opinion. A convection oven is an oven that heats and circulates air. An air fryer also heat and circulates air. Both cook and brown items. The air fryer without oil. The oven heats but doesn't circulate air.
I have limited counter space, so I just turn up the oven and cook on parchment paper up to 415 deg F, for browning and cooking. I do this without oil.
Good for you, for choosing to stay away from cooking with oil, for your health and it sure makes clean up easier. I think parchment works in an air fryer but I don't know if it will burst into flames over 415 deg F. Good luck with it.
I have a convection oven, but I don't use it. So I can't see having an air fryer here.

I love my air fryer, best french fries I can make at home. I think that using parchment would defeat the purpose of low oil cooking, my fryer has a mesh screen at the bottom that allows the excess oil and fat to drain away for the food so as to keep it from being saturated. yard bird, fish and any thing with either dry coating or egg than flour (or corn meal) turn out very good.
