I have been working on my chick order for three days. sigh. I just cannot make up my mind what breeds to get this year.
Leaning towards Light Brahmas, but I also like the Partridge Chanteclers or red Chanteclers. I usually but my chicks from Murray McMurray and have never been disappointed, but their prices are HIGH!!!! this year. My best friend gets hers from Ideal Hatchery and has always been happy with her chicks. Murray McMurray doesn't have the Chanteclers, so I might be switching to Ideal this year.
Any other suggestions before I commit?

Cackle Hatchery. 🐣
I've always ordered from them, except one year. I ordered from Ideal. Their hatchery is about 2 hours from here so I thought I'd keep things "local". Half the chicks arrived sickly or already dead. The sickly ones died within a few hours. They were quick about replacing them but with a different breed than I had originally ordered and, again, about half the new chicks arrived sickly or dead. Called customer service again and got a real nasty lady who basically said my "inexperience" was causing the chicks to die and how I needed to do more research on chick care before I ordered. I told her I just wanted a refund and haven't done business with them since, including buying any chicks from TSC since they are their supplier.
Cackle may be a tad more expensive but I've never had any demises, all the chicks have been healthy and robust, and they've always sent a few extra chicks so the price per chick comes down just a bit.

Any reason you don't like Cackle? Just curious. It's local for me, 2.5 hrs away and it's the only one we've tried (we just started with chickens last year).

Yes, but I guess its partly personal, my Daughter and I picked up chicks there once.I thought the people very rude, was not interested in accommodating a customer, and we lost over half the chicks, even tho they didn't have to be shipped. Year ago, when I was looking to buy Bantam chicks, on the telephone, I got the same attitude. While at Murrays, I told the lady on the phone how many I wanted of each breed, about 15 different breeds, and she looked up exactly what date each of these would be hatched together, and asked if that date would be acceptable, also explained the earlier dates different breeds were hatched. I was tickled to get exactly what I wanted, I even called back later to ask if I could get Coccodia shots, again, no problem. Healthiest chicks I have ever seen!!

I always get my chicks from Abendroth Hatchery. They are family-owned and run. I pick up my chicks in person (less than 1 hour from my farm) and always have healthy birds. They do ship. They don't have the giant varieties that the big hatcheries have, but they have what I want, have competitive prices and excellent customer service/quality birds.

I've had good luck with McMurray. Rarely lose a chick.

I used Hoover last time I ordered chicks and was well pleased with the quality of the chicks, will definitely order from them again.

We've picked up chicks and ducklings from Cackle many times, they always throw in an extra one or two. Never a dead of sickly bird yet. If you're close enough to pick up, just order online and avoid the line, they'll have your order sitting next to the register ready to go. Nice little restaurant across the street too.
