I have a terrapin that stays near my garden. As I picked my limited produce I would ask her which tomato she wanted. Now she has moved to my newest compost pile. I saw her the other evening just as I dumped my bucket which was mostly liquid on top of her. This morning I took out the bucket and there she was on the pile. She had her front legs spread and was working on a trench. It was about one inch wide and two inches long and with her head in the trench she did not see me. I carefully emptied the bucket...not so much liquid this time. She raised her head and must have smelled something to her taste for she immediately started reaching for it. So much pleasure to see these creatures and the stars in the early morning.
Though my lawn was was mowed yesterday by man still it was a pleasure to enjoy walking on.

The work I've done on my yard and garden in the five-ish years I've been at it, is making it more attractive to little creatures. This year I've had several toads of varying sizes hang around; more bird varieties visit; lots of different bees, wasps and small pollinators; a couple tree frogs, one in the tall lilies, and one in the rhubarb. Some fun things have reappeared or been seeded by birds, too: mulberry tree, sassafras bush, forget-me-nots, milkweed, lemon balm, a tall and pretty wild lettuce (which I cut back before it released too many of its copious airborne seed crop.)

I completely agree! I take pleasure in seeing how many of God's creatures I can find in the early morning. On Sunday it was a flock of turkeys wandering in the field just behind my garden. They weren't afraid of me and we each did our own thing in harmony.
The toads that live by my compost bin are cute little things and I make it a point to enjoy their company as I know I won't be seeing them much longer with winter coming on.
And the cute little baby praying mantis's that are in my flower garden! I check each plant before I water to make sure that I'm not drowning the little guys.
Life is good!

I guess it kinda goes unsaid (if you have read some of my threads on The Great Outdoors and the Bird Watching boards) that I am indeed a nature nut. I am constantly in awe of all of the beauty and the creatures on this earth that God made especially for us to enjoy... ~Mari

Real neat thread there dustawaits . I must admit that I had to look up the word terrapin - I learned something today! Took a little break between locking up the different coops earlier this evening... ~Mari

I love nature and my enjoyment of it has raised eyebrows. What could be more important? We can not live without it!
But some people think , like children. nature should be seen but not heard.
But the more you look the more you see, and with it the knowledge ..no man could have made it...but God did.

There is nothing more beautiful than God’s art work. On the mornings that I get out early to walk, once I get to our beach, I’ll sit on a bench and just look at the beautiful blue skies. When they’re cumulus clouds, I can see all sorts of shapes. Many times it’s a heart❤️ I watch the crabs find their homes, as they scurry, back to their holes.
It just amazes me how incredibly smart God has made creatures that have such strong instincts. God is great, perfect.🙏🏻

Perhaps not "nature" so much - but it gave me much pleasure to watch the beautiful changing sky above the woods and bean field late this afternoon... ~Mari

Near 200 miles today.... I go the shortest way which means 2 miles of dirt roads. The dirt connects to pavement and as I eased around a corner....there were two fawns in the middle of the road. I stopped , they considered which way to go... One went straight into the woods, the other went up the road and then turned into the woods. Another 1/2 mile and there were two bucks beside the road, and I was sure they were going to cross. They did and a third one came out of the woods and crossed after them. I was in no hurry.... grannyg, I stand in awe many ime watching the gold walnut leaves raining to the ground. It is such a beautiful sight and I am so glad to know other who also enjoy simple, majestic pleasures!
