Do I have a broody hen? I left probably 10 eggs and I noticed a hen sitting on them, she screeches and bites at you if you come near her, I took all the eggs from her since they are not fertilized, I only got 1 egg today normally 4-6. Is her behavior causing the other layers to lay elsewhere or not at all? Is the only way to break this is separate her? If I ordered some fertile eggs would she will be this way when they arrived? She is a RIR, she is probably 2 years old

I put my broody hens to work.
Some have found that dipping them part way in a bucket of cold well water, stops them from being broody. Another is.. putting them in a rabbit hutch, with a wire bottom... so they cool off.

Almost every one of them is stuffed under my coop bench in a corner, trying to sit on as many eggs as they can! Two hicks hatched, I thought that would break them up some...nope, it made the others more determined:-()

Silkies are great broody hens. If there is another breed you have been interested in, you should get some hatching eggs and have the hens hatch them out for you.
