Almost fot got a friend just bought a new place and it has a 8 x 15 foot greenhouse on it that he does not want. Of course I do so we have to get that moved over here in the next couple week ends. I was going to build on this year as soon as I recover from back surgery set for tomorrow.

Hope the surgery is uneventful. Strength and healing thoughts to you.
You may need to wait a little longer than the next couple of weekends for that greenhouse unless you have a lot of friends who will help, but sounds like win-win!

Thank you for prayers and good wishes. My job is supervision only, will cost me beer and pizza for a group of young men to help

You will really enjoy that greenhouse! We have a simple hoop house--no supplemental heat or ventilation--but it's still my favorite place to be on a cold sunny day. I planted carrots Saturday with both the end window and the top of the Dutch door open. Barely sunny but the temps were 70-80o inside. I figure it gives me a good 6 weeks' extension in both spring and fall.

Surgery went as planned, still got a couple days of healing. The great news is my greenhouse was delivered tonight. I can start planning the lay out . The great part is the greenhouse was free.

We have a hoophouse and meant to cover it with plastic for the winter, but the problem is, how to ventilate? Ours has plywood ends. We built a Dutch door for our access so to keep the dogs and chickens out, we keep the bottom closed and open the top half. For the other end, we drew a rectangle almost 3' wide and about 2' tall. We made a vertical cut with a jigsaw, applied 2 hinges on either side of the cut, then cut the other 3 sides to create a window. The house is oriented lengthwise, east to west, to catch the prevailing westerly breeze. Sometimes that isn't adequate so I do hang a breeze box fan in the window from the ridge pole. If the wind is from the west, I turn the fan to blow into the space. If from the east, I turn it to blow out the window. So far so good. While that is semi, sorta, kinda, maybe ventilation, it's not permanently installed ventilation. Oddly enough, even on cold winter days, if the sun is bright with no clouds, I still have to open that window. If you haven't purchased your plastic yet, I recommend the plastic fabric sold by Northern Greenhouse Sales. It's very tough, durable and protected for UV exposure. We had plain flat extruded plastic that barely lasted a year. The woven plastic will last quite a while even with sharp cat claws. We remove ours each year in late spring and reapply in the fall and use that space for regular crops during the summer.
