I have some bags of frozen rhubarb. A lot of ice in them, so I'm thawing one more. The last one also seemed very woody, so I tossed it. Any ideas 1) how I tell if I froze stems that were past the point, and 2) anything to do with this besides compost it? I'll be able to pick fresh any day now. Thanks.

Use Less, we've been keeping much more fruit in the freezer this past year. Either bought frozen fruit or fruit on sale, washed and put on a tray, frozen individually, then put in bags. Eventually, it starts to dehydrate and ice crystals form in the bag (bought frozen or stuff we froze). The more ice crystals the more dehydrated. It seems to dehydrate faster than vegetables or anything else. If it's been in the freezer a year, composting might make sense. (as I'm trying so hard to unload a bunch of books, I have some music books that my children used growing up piano and organ. I'm ready to throw those out, if you know any students that might want them, they are free but they pay shipping, media mail. Should I send you a list of titles?)

The bag I just cooked broke down fast, but I could see a half-dozen chunks that stayed firmer. Yep... woody. I scooped those out, and think I can do something with the rest. Somewhere I had a recipe for a cooked salsa/meat sauce with rhubarb. If it's not in my salt-and-pepper, I'll look on line. Some of the other bags may just leave. I'm starting to put plastic jugs of water down in the freezer, to fill more space, and raise the food up.
Yes, please send me a list of your music books. Piano for sure! Are the organ books for church organ, or for electric organ? I would not have a use electric organ books. Charity stores will take them, if you're saving a box for the Salvation Army, etc., once they can open.

I make juice out mine. You can mix it with other juices or even bi itself. Just sweeten your taste. And it is a pretty pink.
