The other day I noticed that the green tops of some onions in one particular bed had been chewed down a little bit. This morning I noticed that some where nibbled down to the ground.
This evening as I was preparing some beds and plants for the coming storm and the higher than normal winds that we are supposed get, I turned around and there were two cotton tails not more than 20 feet from me doing the "let's make little bunnies" dance. They could not have cared less that I was standing right there watching, the little perverts!!! I shooed them away and not two minutes later the two bunnies in love and a third adult bunny were all running around me in circles. I threw a few things at them to include shoes, but then it grew dark and I could not see them anymore.
I guess my question is, do rabbits eat the green tops of onions? I have not seen any bugs or worms and did not realize that any critter would actually eat onion tops. I will have to wait until tomorrow to put out game cameras. If bunnies do eat onion tops I am sure that the one already in the freezer would love some company. I could put up some netting around the beds as a low fence, but that is a lot of work compared to one well aimed shot with an arrow.
Anyone with similar experience???

I am pretty sure they will eat onion tops, never seen it happen while it was happening, but the evidence was somewhat convincing

I have winter onions planted (aka walking onions) and over the winter the bunnies ate the tops off of some of them. I didn't catch them in the act but there was bunny droppings in the raised bed.

If rabbits get hungry enough, they will eat green onions. I've also had them nibble on walking onions in the winter time but never when there's other things to eat. One animal that I know to eat onion tops is a dog. Every dog that I ever had would eat onion tops and pea pods.

Although you may not have the conditions I do that promote slugs, I can say that slugs are definitely onion top eaters. With little sprouts, the whole top disappears. With larger tops, the onions develop holes in them until there are enough that the top tumble in a lacy mess.

Pre-seasoned bunny.
I like the way you think!!!
Update-----
The bunny problem seems to have lessened. I enlisted the help of the neighbors little terrier/mutt dog and she seems to have scared them off for the most part. If the rabbits only knew that if they just stood their ground and even moved toward the dog just a little she would more than likely run screaming just like she does when a cat makes a movement in her direction. It is really quite comical. All of that barking at the cat and then she runs, yelping, like a scalded dog if the cat moves an inch in her direction. I will have to get a video of it one day and post it.

I'll go with rabbit. We seem to have one eating whatever sounds good in the garden - a little bite of lettuce, a carrot leaf or two, green onion tops (but not the leeks). Even took a bite or two out of my artichoke plants until it figured out those weren't good. Either the dogs or the BB gun will get it sooner or later.

Young rabbits will eat anything once, as Trebello pointed out. Had one fill up on broccoli once and I chased it into a hole behind a neighbor's cement steps. Blocked the hole so it would not get out. Neighbor looked in a day later and it was dead. Built up too much gas that it couldn't pass or neutralize with something else.

President Bush (the first one) was onto something after all.
