I've done a couple of twined ones - one out of blue jeans (that sucker weighs a ton!) and one out of flannel. DH just put together a new loom for me that is runner length, so I'm going to make a twined runner for the kitchen. My Grandmother made braided wool rugs ... her whole house was carpeted that way!
BTW - Yours look great!

I've done 4 twined but that was last year. I just pulled the loom out the other day and started on another. Been consumed with weaving this last year. BTW, I've got a Weavers Delight loom. I can do rag rugs on that too. I just haven't yet. Redfish, those are BEAUTIFUL rugs. Really nicely done. Keep up the tradition!

Wow Redfish..... Thanks! I had no idea it influenced anyone. I'm glad I turned someone on to it. But you're right - they are fun and easy to do. The looms are simple to make and the material is whatever you want to put into them. And much more sturdy than regular rugs because they're several layers thick. (that middle rug of mine was several fuzzy blankets my daughter was throwing out - they made a real nice soft rug - and SHE has it now.) I do like the oval rugs like you do though. They're so classy. I've just steered clear of them because of the sewing. Not like I cant, just lazy. Someday though.... Greenmother: Love to see some pics of that runner length loom! Sounds interesting.

That top one is so neat! I really should get round to making one, I have a box full of old clothes, including 4 or 5 pairs of jeans, and I have a doorway from the kitchen to the livingroom that badly needs something washable down in it, the carpet gets filthy so fast there. Just got to get off my ass and make something to fit it.

I LOVE all of your rugs. My favorites are the twined rag rugs. I have one on my loom now which I need to finish- maybe we'll get some rainy days yet this Spring!

My next project is gonna be the Weavers Delight loom. I have to try and get that thing warped. It's made for rag rugs. But I might try warping it for rag rug place mats instead as a first project. Ol' Gus still has some life left in him. He's a monster of a loom, really heavy, but I have to be able to demonstrate if I'm gonna sell it.

I haven't done any but I want to. How do you do the denim ones? All the denim I have are from old jeans and there aren't any long strips really. By the way, I love your rugs.

My great-grandma used to make all sorts of rugs. The ones I liked best were the bread bag throw rugs she made.
Hmm... All those jeans Nick wants mended....
We have a rigid heddle rug loom, but haven't quite figured out how to make it work. Probably going to sell it if I can find a buyer. Just don't have the time for all my "want to do" things.
But tell me, redfish, how did you learn to do those braided rugs?

My grandma saved Roman meal bread sacks and made a braided rug for in frount of the couch. I've made a few twined rugs. I would like to make a braided rug from jeans.

I've been doing round rugs on a loom made from the steel rim from an old wagon wheel. don't have a way to post pictures tho but you can google wagon wheel rugs or hula hoop rugs to see what they look like

I have saved plastic bags (orange and bright blue) from newspaper delivery. Thought maybe someday I'd do something with them. Hubby was cleaning out an upstairs room recently and found them. After 5 years or so of collecting it's probably not going to be done. I always have these "ideas" but don't follow through. Love seeing all your handmade rugs.

This one is crocheted out of old sheets. This is the first time I've tried to post a picture, so we'll see how it goes.

I'm currently tearing up old Tshirts to make a crocheted rug. My dd gave me big crochet hooks for Christmas just so I can make it. I love the pics of everyone's rugs.

Here's a couple of mine. They measure about 31"-32". I started crocheting rugs when I didn't feel like sewing, as I wanted to get some fabric used up. I've made 20 or so so far.

Now, why the heck did they come out so big? Sorry about that. They showed up small when I did the resize on photobucket.

Thank you. I make them up from yardage of fabric that I'm never going to use for quilting. It takes about 7 yards for each one and is one way for me to use up some of my stash. The round one was made from some really, really ugly striped fabric, but made what I think is a pretty rug. I like how it turned out so well that I now look for ugly striped fabric when I'm out and I don't need any more! I'm such a lost cause...

I found the round one on the internet and will see if I can find it again. The hex is one that I just crocheted up without any pattern.

Here's the latest on the twining loom. I been working on the Weavers delight last few days. I can't do a denim rug because plain weave won't let it pack in tight enough. I'd have to cut the strips to 1/4 inch. Bummer... Manygoats..... t-shirt fabric is great! It stretches and packs really nice, doesn't fray and it's strong. wvterri: The most gawdy splotchy patterned fabric makes the best woven rugs! Stripes, if you cut angular come out a lot better than if you cut them with the stripe.
