After a couple of weeks with almost no precipitation to speak of - we'd get mist, but that was it - it's raining today and looks to continue for awhile. Since our fire danger was flirting with the extreme mark (we have sandy soil and water doesn't hang around long) we definitely needed the rain. And in typical Wisconsin weather style, we've gone from well below normal temperatures to well above. Honestly, I don't even know what "normal" weather is supposed to be anymore.

Traveled over Chinook Pass today, in the Cascade mountains. The parking lot at the summit still has about eight feet of snow in it. The temperature was 62 degrees and when I got back home it was 103 degrees. It is not unusual for the summit to have thirty feet of snow on the ground in the winter. They normally close the pass In early October and hope to have it plowed out the last of May.

Well, after a couple of hard freeze warnings last week (which for some strange reason once again seem to have hit south of us, while sparing those of us in the northwoods), the temperature is rocketing off in the other directions. We're supposed to be in the 90's within the next few days. 90 degrees is rare for us in August - or July - and pretty much unheard of in early June.
We're also experiencing the payback for having had a mild winter - the wasps are horrible already this year. The one benefit to having a gazillion sub-zero winter days appears to be in the lack of stinging insects - if not lack, a much smaller number, anyway.

Hot and dry around here. Running around 100 till Saturday. Saturday is to be 108, Sunday 109, and Monday 110, before going back into the upper 90’s. Sure don’t need that with the drought. Hope and pray no forest fires get going, with those temperatures it would be like a can of gas exploding.

Hot tamale for you there!!! I thought our high 90's was way too hot, which have been non stop for over a week. Today it's the humidity again, but only in the 70's. Tonight will be high 50's. Good sleeping weather again.
The heat always comes with humidity here, usually I should say. Crazy summer weather so far here too. My wanting to get a tan is still a hope, but don't think it will turn into a reality again...I can't sit in this sunny heat, even if I can keep jumping in the sound for a swim. Oh and the horse flies are huge and their bite hurts!

I'll repeat what I said in an earlier post: I have no idea what "normal" weather is supposed to be. We recently had an entire week in the mid-90's. Yesterday the high temperature didn't crack 60 degrees. I just can't keep up with the weather's wild mood swings. Woodpecker , the horse flies and deer flies are absolutely crazy here. We've learned to adjust our walks to avoid any wetlands along the roads because we WILL pick up biting flies. Dh was reading me something that was online, about ways to avoid horse flies. One of the things was "do nothing - they're territorial and won't follow you for long." Yeah, no. Our flies did not read that article. They'll follow you everywhere. Sometimes I take a fly swatter with me when we walk, so I can play deer fly hockey. What can I say, I'm easily amused.

susannahWe had 45° last night and today was beautiful about 72°. Tomorrow should be nice and then they say we might get 2 inches of rain and cool on Thursday. I agree with you the weather is unknown and crazy. Deer flies and horseflies have not hit here yet nor have the mosquitoes. Expecting them momentarily. I bought double-sided tanglefoot tape and put it on top of one of my hats to capture them. Works really well. Disgusting to have the fly stuck on your head but hey better than them biting me!

Stay cool Jack!

The a/ c is working overtime! It just hit 100 at 1:00 pm and real feel is 107. I only watered outside and visited with my girl to water there too and pray🌈
Could not sleep near a wink, it was so hot in my room…need new a/c. I’ll be starting my sleep tonight downstairs on the couch in the a/c. It hard to breathe out there ☀️

For our area right now, it’s rain, rain, rain. I walk out and look at the gardens, and the weeds and mud taunt me. I just know when it dries out some, it will be hot as heck with biting flies and skeeters, and there I will be with my hoe having one heck of a time. But not tonight, we have a flood warning. Nothing major, just the usual streams and ditches running over the roads and such. All this rain is not good for the farmers. Wheat is almost ready to harvest, but some is laying over now. Also not good for making hay.

Roller coaster weather here. 80 degrees today - normal. Low 70's tomorrow - cooler than normal. 90's for the weekend - obviously, above normal. Crazy wild weather mood swings.
We did get a little rain yesterday, and earlier this week - not enough, but the lake level rose about an inch. Still very low for this time of year. But I won't complain; we're not flooding, we're not baking, we're not extreme drought. All things considered, we're very lucky.

Our digital WX station showed we'd had over 14" of rain for June and nearly all of that has been in the last week. This month is only 6 1/2 hrs old and we've already had an additional 1.38" of rain with more coming if the internet radar site is accurate. Today is supposed to be the last day with all this rain but knowing Missouri, the "tap" could be turned off for the rest of the summer.
Like Vickilynn, my garden is muddy and weedy. I'm so grateful we got our hay put up in mid-June when it was dry. There's a wheat field across the road from us and while it's not lodging, it's definitely turning brown from all the rain instead of still being golden.

We could use some of that rain - garden is dry. Some rain today around us - mostly south and east of us - but only a few drops here. We had a cold, wet spring so garden is late anyway.

Not too bad of a day, might have reached 100. The next ten day are showing 98 to 101, sure better than the 110 to 115 earlier this week. Have concerns about the 4th of July fireworks. They are pretty much outlawed, but that never stops people from shooting a lot of them off. The Rez is selling them, but supposedly to tribal members only.

Today the heat has broken, only low 70’s, but horribly humid. Showers on and off all day and just heard hard rains tonight and 62…good sleeping weather again. I had the a/ c on a comfy 70 and that was enough to cool the indoors down to 73. With the a/c on ,while the temps were high 90’s and the one 100 degree day, the downstairs couldn’t keep up. The coolest it got inside was 76, a/c set on 67.
We only have one window a/c 10,000 BTU’S downstairs, which usually is comfortable. This is the first year since the new A/c purchased 3 years ago, not so new actually doesn’t get any where near cool to the desired temperature setting.
Oh just heard we’re supposed to have flash floods tonight and some hail. Crazy summertime weather. It’s from one extreme to the next so fast. I’m trying to keep up with it. Getting behind a bit and wilted🥀

Cooler temperatures have arrived. 97 yesterday and 78 today. Wind blowing, so the smoke is back, visibility about half mile. Maybe the wind will end up blowing it out, can only hope.

Last at midnight was the warmest we got, 77°. That's the normal low. This afternoon's high was 72°. Hours of a steady light rain totaled less than a half an inch. The weather divorced the Pacific northwest. Said you people were taking her for granted. Said she wanted to go where people appreciated her.

We've had a strange summer as well. Two weeks ago I had to put a sweatshirt on to go out and feed. Loved it! Now it's 74 when I go out and so humid you could cut it with a knife. Calling for scattered thunderstorms for the next 2 days and possibly some rain from "Henri" if it gets close enough. While I don't mind the rain, I appreciate not having to water the garden, I wish the rain would cool things down but it doesn't. Just makes it more humid.
Fall can come any time now.

Well, July 2021 was the hottest and the most rain fall than ever on record here in NY…. It was hot, but thank God for the rain.
We are winding down on what was to be the Henri hurricane, turned into tropical storm. It’s still a hard rain fall and while watching the local weather, I was surprised there’s thousands here without power. Henri turned and hit the East end of Long Island, missing us here with the high winds, but the hard rain continues.
Sons been at work pumping since 9: 00 am and said the main roads are flooded and side roads too, as usual with storms here.
High tide tonight and full moon= more flooding!!!!

Sunday we got 7 inches of rain from Henri. Today it's 96 and so humid you can't breathe. Have to watch and make sure you hydrate.
I'm ready for Fall, no matter what it brings!

countrymom22 , you must be located somewhere on the upper east coast. So far this year we have received 2.84 inches of rain, normal would be just under 5 inches. We sure could use all that rain you received on our forest fires. Hope you didn’t have damage from all the rain.

farmerjack, thanks for asking, but we're fine here. Garden is a little soggy and the chickens are a little muddy, but the sump pump kicked on when needed, so it's all good. Wish I could send some of this water your way.

I read today that they’re 19,000 new acres on fire in MN….new fires!!! This is beyond terrible for all who are breathing in the smoke who live near by and for people miles and miles away. it’s just sickening 💨 💨 Is that the Greenwood fire? That's one of the fires responsible for the fact that we're under an air quality alert in northern Wisconsin - have been all day and it continues. It was so bizarre. I woke up at 6 a.m. today, and it smelled like we'd had a campfire last night. Which we hadn't. So then I thought maybe our neighbors were having an early morning campfire (although we're usually the only ones who do that). Nope. Then I saw the air quality alert, which was triggered by either the Greenwood fire or Quetico Provincial Park fire in Ontario. We've had a lot of haze this summer from wildfires, but this is the strongest I've smelled smoke from them. Dh said he read our Air Quality Index was 164, which is in the "unhealthy" range. We're supposed to get some rain tonight - well, maybe - most of the rain we've been promised this summer has failed to amount to much of anything. I'm pretty sure parts of Minnesota are also getting rain. Hopefully it'll help with the fires. There's been so much devastation from fires!

I just sent Cabin Fever a note on another forum as my DH just told me about the Greenwood fire stay safe. It looks pretty bad and doubled in size in one day.
Wouldn’t hurt to wear one of your masks if you’re outdoors at all. Remember particulate matter from wildfires is much larger and the Covid virus… Your mask may actually stop it.
