Just thought I would share my process of building a better and safer place for my girls. I started out with 4 chickens then lost 1 to a skunk that I eventually trapped and dispatched. Then I lost another to an unknown predator. I had known for a long time that the area I had them in was not secure, but they had been safe for so long that I put off the build for to long. After the first loss I began the build, but put it in high gear after the second one. This is the old coop with a make shift shelter area. The coop was a pre-fab kit bought from Cal-Ranch. It was enclosed in a 20x20 area. These next photos are what I had to work with when building the new coop. I started out with a pre-built 8x8 shed filled with crap I had to find a new home for. 2 days later it's all cleaned up Next I removed the plexiglass and put in the hardware cloth. I used the plexiglass and attached it to a frame to make windows that I could open and close depending on the weather. Pop door cut out and run area cleaned up. Building the run..... Hardware cloth and chicken wire added. The hw overlaps the chicken wire half way up. Thats old roofing from the shed on the ground. Sliding pop door installed.... New roof on shed and run.... New paint and girls enjoying their new home.

I hope the hens appreciate the work you have done. I would add a perch using two crossbars to lay a fat dowel or broomstick/branch. They like too perch. You make sure there is straw under the perch because that is where the poop will all end up.
