Okay, so it's the end of October and all my trees still have their leaves. And the leaves are still green. We live in central NJ so this is not normal. And hubby still has to mow every weekend. But strangest of all, my lilacs, which for some strange reason lost all their leaves back in July. I assumed they probably had some disease and that I lost them all. But now, with no leaves, they have bloomed. Again. For the second time this year. I have been here for 28 years and this has never happened before. Nor has it ever happened at any other property we have lived on. So what gives guys? Global warming or something else?
Have you seen or had any weird stuff other than strange weather around your place? Inquiring minds want to know!

Yes! I’ve been here since1983 and the Lilacs that were here, most are still alive. They bloomed in May as usual and two weeks ago when I went out to my car, there were beautiful Lilacs starting to pop! This has never happened here either. I’m so happy it happened to someone else, because I also have crocuses in bloom in a couple areas that I never planted them in. Actually they’re on the opposite side of the yard.
Then there’s all sorts of new and different weeds I’ve never seen before and vines, which I already have a lot of. At my backdoor, on my old friendly neighbors years ago, he had a corner full of Poke SallyAnnie, ( not sure of spelling, Zeb told me what is was) an invasive weed. It was all taken out years ago and cleaned up. This summer by my garage it started to grow on that neighbors side. He hadn’t cleaned up his yard, so I asked him to please pull those all out and the other mess, because it was starting to creep onto my flower garden there. He did, hoping it doesn’t keep coming back.
I started to think maybe it was me, I mean this is really strange!….Strange days indeed.

We've never had to cut our lawn in mid-October before - usually it goes dormant before that. But we did - and yesterday dh remarked that it looks like it might need one more cutting. That'll be another first, cutting the grass in November. It's often covered by snow at that time.
The weird thing we saw was with the last cocktail tomato plant. We had picked all the ones that we figured were large enough to ripen, then dumped the plant just outside of the woods in the back yard. A few weeks later, the tiny tomatoes we'd left on the plant were ripening, and the plant was actually flowering. Lots of little yellow tomato blossoms suddenly appeared. In October. That was weird.
I love lilacs! When we first moved here, there were beautiful white lilac bushes along the driveway. No one else on our road had lilacs. Before we lived here full time, we had someone plow our driveway in winter so that it would be cleared and we could...get into the driveway...when we came up. It was a heavy snow year, and he buried some of the bushes under snow, and plowed down the others. Needless to say, we did NOT use his services again. I mean, we moved up here full time and had a giant snow thrower that could handle our long driveway, so we could take care of it ourselves. But even if we couldn't - we would have found someone else. It wasn't just the lilacs; there were other things too.

Well I'm so glad it isn't just me! Hubby was beginning to look at me funny, as if the lilacs always bloomed in the fall and I just didn't notice!

Our leaves here in SE Ohio are late turning colors this year. I also have forsythia, honeysuckle, and an apple tree blooming!

These things that are growing now are more than odd. I mean non of us have seen these things before!!!
It’s the world of today…. I feel an aura of just plain evil in the world. Everyone cannot do their jobs correctly, mistakes from the bank, health insurance, auto insurance, supermarkets to name a few that I’ve had within this year. My sister had her health insurance hacked, I’ve never heard of that one.
They’re just too many things going wrong and maybe it is the end times. The world needs the Lord God Almighty🙌
I’m a bit off the subject, opps.

The flowers may be activated to go into bloom based on length of day. If it is usually overcast at this time of year, and now it isn't, maybe they are getting more length of day than in years past. Remember that when it is overcast night comes faster.
Then, there is the sap running up and down the stems. If that is happening it could trigger blooming. I'm not expert, just a thought. I don't really know.

While the idea of the length of daylight might have some merit Maura, (after all, what do I know!) it has been very overcast the last week or so, but other than that it's been pretty average and these plants bloomed again over a month ago. I don't know. I'm just confused, but then again, I'm often confused!

Call your county extension office. They should have an answer.

Strange it is. Here it is knocking at the door of Dec 1st and temperatures above 60 during the day. 9:30 tonight and it’s still 54 degrees. Many nights in May are not that warm. There was a good snow covering along the road on the Cascade mountain passes, with the warm temperatures and all the rain it is all but gone. It will not drop below freezing here till Friday night. Do hope it turns around, we need snow! Many years Thanksgiving weekend, we could get a good start on snowmobiling, with three or four feet in the mountains.

Friday's high is predicted to be 84 degrees.
Saturday's high should be 57. Possible first hard freeze Sunday morning.

The weather is the same here bluemingidiot. Today was 39 with flurries and Saturday it's going to be almost 70! At this rate I'll still be weeding in February! Never thought I'd hear myself say I wish it would get colder out!

While not as extreme, as of right now we're supposed to be in the mid to upper 40's sometime next week. Which us unusual for us - for sure.

High winds hit here last night about 10:00 and are still at it this morning. Supposed to blow till 4:00 this afternoon. Can see this morning there is damage to my low tunnel in the garden. High of 53 today. Looking ahead ten days, lows will be in mid teens and highs about 30 to 32 degrees. The mountains are catching snow, up to 3 foot this weekend, but nothing here in the next few days.

We got eight inches of snow overnight. By Wednesday, we're supposed to be in the 50's with half an inch or so of rain. Then back into the low 30's. It's going to be a mess, that's for sure. Especially if that rain freezes and we end up with ice. To say our weather is having wild mood swings would be an understatement.

I have a cousin's ex in NE AR not far from Monette AR where someone in a nursing home died. I've sent her a text but haven't heard back from her.
At one point last night, we had a solid line of side by side tornado warnings from about 100 miles south of us to about 30 miles north of us. There was a radar indicated tornado north of us but nothing was said about damage on local news this morning. However, two were killed in the St. Louis area, one in MO, one in Edwardsville IL. There was another tornado in the Bootheel region but no reports yet of injuries or deaths.

I hope you hear from your cousin soon mogal, and that everyone's okay. The storms were absolutely devastating.

No response from her as yet. I'll try a call tomorrow. Thanks for asking, Susannah.
By way of explanation, the reason I tried to call my cousin's ex, rather than my cousin, is that he passed not quite 3 years ago. He was more like a big brother than a cousin. They divorced over 20 years ago but I still stayed in contact with both of them.

Prayers she's alright mogal, such devastation, everything just flattened and mostly gone. I'd be terrified living anywhere where there are tornado's. Hurricanes and Nor Easters are enough worry for me.

Woodpecker, let's choose to believe that hyacinths coming up that early may mean an early Spring? Do we dare to hope? I'll hope enough for all of us. I am so over winter!

The ground hog said 6 more weeks of winter, BUT it’s only correct 40% of the time. So there’s still hope! Come on spring🙌

I forget which of the groundhogs saw their shadow and which didn't this morning. But it was a 50/50 split, so some of them will be right!

So, I’m confused again🧐 does every State have their own Ground Hog - Day?
I heard too that New Jersey’s ground hog thought it would be an early spring, while here in New York, it said the opposite.

From what I've been able to find out, at least 8 states, besides PA, have weather-predicting groundhogs.
