I think they were tracking the PA, Staten Island, New York and one other. Millbrook Mel, who was a NJ groundhog (I think), died a few days ago so they had to cancel their predicting.

They say it might get above freezing later today, but really does not look too favorable. Calling for snow showers this afternoon. 19 to 21 at night, sure not cold like some of you folks have. The forecast is for it to warm up a wee bit, but gets put off every day.

So, I’m confused again🧐 does every State have their own Ground Hog - Day? I heard too that New Jersey’s ground hog thought it would be an early spring, while here in New York, it said the opposite. From what I've been able to find out, at least 8 states, besides PA, have weather-predicting groundhogs. I think Wisconsin's official groundhog is Jimmy, out in Sun Prairie. I don't know if it's the same Jimmy who bit the mayor's ear some years back, or if we get new ones from time to time and they're all named Jimmy. Anyway this Jimmy didn't find his shadow so it's supposedly going to be an early spring. For southern Wisconsin anyway. Up here in the northwoods, if we only had six more weeks of winter and then were done with it, it WOULD be an early spring. I mean, April snowstorms are not at all uncommon up here. "Early spring" and "six more weeks of winter" are the same thing for us. It was sunny up here on groundhog day, so if we did have a groundhog it would mean six more weeks of winter. But we don't have an official groundhog - at least not that I know of.

Weatherman has gone off his rocker. 62 today, but with high winds. By tomorrow afternoon it is to be snowing. Thursday morning to be the coldest at 19 degrees, highs in the 30’s Wednesday thru Friday. Reckon the new growth on strawberries and blackberries will not be too impressed. Will be setting up the fans on the cherry trees. They probably will be running the big wind machines and maybe heaters in the soft fruit orchards.

Well it’s snowing here, 30 degrees…a very wet snow, turning to all rain. The past few days were in the upper 60’s & 70’s , strange days indeed

We just had the worst icing/ice storm that I remember. The snow in the yard glistens like a giant diamond. I tried going out to the bird feeders today (which are empty) but gave up halfway. Knowing it was glare ice, when I got to the worst part I dropped to my hands and knees to prepare for belly crawling the rest of the way...good thing we don't have neighbors this time of year or this bit of craziness could have ended up online somewhere. But I realized I wasn't real sure about standing up when I got to the feeders. The wind is blowing like crazy - I was afraid of blowing over or would I even be able to get my balance to stand up? And could I stay standing? It's that bad.
Dh - who outweighs me by about 75 pounds - figured he'd be able to break through better and could get there. He got to the total skate rink part of the yard, yelled "this is crazy!" and backed up to the one path that isn't pure ice. Since I can't find the old suet feeder - it's probably in the garden shed, which would require skating crossing the ice yard again - I figure when we're in town tomorrow I'll pick up a cheap suet feeder and hang it from the deck. Which I can access by opening the patio doors in the living room. Because as thick as this ice in the yard is and as cold as we are, I won't be able to get to the actual feeders until May.

Since the yard is so icy, try throwing the seed out onto the ice when the winds die down. That always worked for me.

I haven't forgotten, yet. The last few mornings it has been in the low 40's when I went out to feed. A little too cold for us here in May. I haven't been able to get my seedlings planted yet because of the crazy weather.
And I hear Texas is blistering hot the last couple of days. Hope you're staying cool and hydrated!
