We use our gas fireplace to take the “chill” out of the room quite consistently. (For at least 17 years now.)
The fake logs have become pretty fragile. In a recent cleaning, some of them were damaged and will need to be replaced.
(Truth is …… I had set them too close to the electric lift chair. As the lift chair made a power move ….. a couple of the logs were MASHED ….. PULVERIZED!)
Anyway …… the cost of the whole unit of those exact logs for replacement …. Is frightenly costly!
Menards or Lowe’s has fake logs for about 1/5 the cost.
When I spoke to a rep from the company about the composition of his logs ….. he wanted to stress the reason that HIS product is essential is not so much what the product is made of, but rather, more about the finished APPEARANCE.
WELL! I’m OLD! I’m more interested in the warmth! Not so much concerned about getting Martha Stewards approval on log arrangement, nor am I concerned about Better Homes and Gardens coming in for a photo shoot.
Is there a reason …. An engineering secret ….. that I need a specific log to make my flame most efficient?
I mean ….. my goodness! we’re talking a difference between $100 …. Or $500 😲

Is there a reason …. An engineering secret ….. that I need a specific log to make my flame most efficient? None whatsoever; they do nothing to the flame except soak up a little heat. You do want to arrange them so they don't get in the way of the flame enough to make it not burn clean.

There might be a BTU or convenience difference, but other than that, it's appearance.

Technically you don't even need the logs so get whichever ones work for you.
"Can I use my gas fireplace without logs?
The logs are solely for the aesthetic appeal although it may create a psychological benefit of making you feel warmer because of it appears to be a wood burning fire. There is not danger from turning on your gas fireplace without any logs."
