We moved. From storage to our new house. We being my wife, 31 year old stepson, and me. What was in three bedrooms, a living room, den and kitchen. As I grow older I keep learning new things. One thing that dawned on me is Yes, books are wonderful possessions, but when mixed with other books in boxes, they are heavy. Especially the big ones. Additionally our home is a Hadley ceramicware museum. I am one tired old pheart.
We are not however allowed to live in our home. The government forbids us to do so until our home is approved with a letter of occupancy. The problem is that the lone inspector has Covid.
Some might feel that since we have waited over eight months what is another week or two. Well house/bordello we are renting doesn't have things like insulation and weatherstripping. There is a good inch between the bottom of the front door and the floor. A faux wood stove to cozy up to. No heating in the bathrooms and the bedrooms are cold. Thursday morning is supposed to be 19 degrees. Friday and Saturday 16 degrees. That is pretty much the bottom threshold for a 75 year old native central Texan. Our new home is foam insulated with double windows.
If the inspector doesn't get better soon you will be able to contact us c/o the Brady Corrections Center as we will be in there for breaking and entering our own home. At least the corrections center will be warm.

Seems like the certificate of occupancy is the last battle in home building. Good luck.
PS. I’ll bake a cake with a file in it just case. Your cellies will know what to do with it. Please make a souvenir shank out of a spoon as a memento.

Why must we pay taxes to employ someone whose job is to delay people from moving into new homes?

Because they couldn’t keep a job otherwise?

What's the worse thing that could happen if you just sleep there? We live in a county with no inspections of any kind. You can live in whatever you want and build whatever you want. I am surprised Texas is so strict.

It's been a long road. Don't give up now. There is light at the end of the tunnel! Hope you guys are warm enough to last another week. Maybe a miracle will happen and the inspector will recover enough to give you your CO before the cold weather.
I'll pray for his recovery and your sanity!

We lived in our house for a year before they bothered to send out an occupancy certificate.

We protect ourselves from the government unfortunately to many people have the false idea the government is here to take care of them. Your right about some people wanting the government to take care of them. Too many anymore on both sides of the aisle. I was at our Republican caucas last night, that was very apparent. 6 people running for governor, we sent a pretty good one on to the committee? We'll see. The one I voted for described himself as a Constitutional Conservative. He got a whole 6 votes, I never had much luck voting, oh well, but the winner got 70 some votes and it's probably important to nominate someone who has a chance of getting elected. I'm back to voting for the lesser of the evils I guess.

The lesser evil seems to be all the choice we have when it gets to the final vote and often not even that. Too often voting is biased on voting for the winner and not for the best canidate.
