Royal Oak isn't really small city life. It is referred to as "Detroit" as is everything in the Detroit Metro area. Last I saw, it was a nice location, but it is part of the large metro area. Grand Rapids is now the largest city in Michigan. Kentwood is adjacent and is part of the metro area. Not really small city.

Urban areas are malignant cancers consuming the country.
I remember when Pflugerville was nothing but cotton and corn fields and meadows. Guys from my high school would go dove hunting after school. More of the same before you got to Round Rock. More of the same before Georgetown. Now it is all one huge Metroplex full of people from other states and countries.
Until last we lived 56 miles from downtown Austin and 60 miles from downtown San Antonio. We moved another 77 miles to the northwest just so I could finish my life outside the Austin/San Antonio metroplex. Good luck finding any area that won't double in size in the next ten years.
