Many west Texas ranchers are having to bring calves in sooner because it is just too expensive to keep feeding them., meaning the calves are smaller than usual and bringing in less money. A lot of the cows are also losing weight because of the heat.

This is going to cause long term food shortages since we can't just wave a magic wand and produce more calves to raise once the rains come.

Yes. My aunt and cousins near Livermore, CA have already had to sell off their herds. Bloodlines that they have had for 40 years or more. Pretty sad when a semi load of hay costs 10,000.00. Doesn't last long and where they have always had wonderful grassland pastures, This year and last, the rains weren't enough to produce what they needed. Pretty sad and it is going to impact everyone. Beef is so expensive!
