Would you take 5 minutes or so to watch this video about Egyptian walking onions and weigh in with any info you might have on an onion like this? I have Catawissa walking onions that do well for me --- but they are dinky compared to these in the video. I would love to get some onions like she grows. In the video, she explains that they harvest the topsets and also the base bulbs every year. Myself, I have never dug a base bulb (except for pulling one out by accident). I harvest the topsets and plant them in the Fall for green onions in the Spring and they are mighty delicious. But, if I grew the type of EWO like in the video, I could harvest the base bulbs for cooking onions. Your thoughts on any of this would be appreciated. EWO

I have potato onions that I got from Southern Exposure Seed Exchange but they are no where near the size that lady showed. In the past, I have had EWO but again, nothing like that big. The base plant was woody and coarse as were the stems. It was only when I tried to use the bulbils that I had something akin to a green onion. Even the bulbils were a pain in the neck to prep for cooking. The ones I had were too hot and harsh to be eaten raw. If you find a US source, please post. I'd be interested. HOSS Tools has this multiplying onion called a Thom M O but they are currently out of stock and please note the price. Yikes. hosstools.com/product/thom-multiplying-onions/

I have also grown potato onions in the past, mogal, and I agree they were nothing like the size of the EWO in the video. I was also amazed at the size of the topsets shown in the video. If I do find a source for them here in America, I will be sure to post it here for anyone who might be interested. Pssst ---- if only someone could/would smuggle a topset bulb cluster to us here in the States, we'd do the rest, wouldn't we?

It's from Australia. I want to see such a video from the US. Maybe this type onion isn't available to us, or her location/ dirt / climate whatever makes possible what I can never accomplish.

I ordered walking onions from Pleasant Valley ( groworganic.com ) last fall and they are doing alright in the garden despite a weeklong freeze that killed off my young lettuce and spinach plants (sometimes can be grown through the winter here). Not walking any, but sending up more and more shoots from the few when first planted. Will supply my green onion needs in a pinch and later on, I expect, fully. Might even dig up one of the plants closer to spring and divide it.
Hope my strawberry and raspberry and asparagus plants survived the freeze as well- unclear except for some of the strawberries.
