A huge windstorm came thru and blew down about 1/2 bushel of small pears...hate to waste. Could I make them into juice?

Yep. We have a Mehu-liisa steam juicer that we bought at a friend's estate sale and I've used it to juice apples, pears, crabapples, elderberries, and the list goes on. If you want, you can run the remaining pulp through something like a Squeezo strainer and add a little juice back to make pear sauce or pear butter.
If your pears aren't very sweet, you can add a bit of sugar or even some cinnamon to improve the flavor. There should be downloadable cookbooks for the ML but if you can't find one, let me know. I will be more than happy to send you the one I have in my files. It's the exact one that came with the ML.

I have a Breville juicer and freeze some of the juice. It’s the only juice that doesn’t make my stomach hurt.

What if I don't have a juicer? Can I cook them like I do apples?

You betcha! Have fun with them and I know you'll enjoy the "fruits" of your labor.

Pear Conserve
4 cups of peeled, cored and finely chopped pear (the type of hand chopper often used for onions worked great for this) 1/4 cup chopped, candied cherries 1/2 orange (juice and rind) 1 box fruit pectin 5 1/2 cups sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp nutmeg
Prepare and measure the pears into a large saucepan. (If there is little juice, add 1/4 cup of water.) Squeeze the juice out of the orange and into the pears in the saucepan. Grate or zest the orange's peel into the mixture. Add the chopped cherries, spices and pectin and heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Add the sugar and stir until sugar is dissolved. Stir constantly to prevent scorching. Cook to a full rolling boil. Boil one minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir and skim off foam for 5 minutes. Ladle into hot sterilized jars. Clean jar rims carefully, put on lids BWB for 10 minutes....YUMMY

A huge windstorm came thru and blew down about 1/2 bushel of small pears...hate to waste. --- --- With a "windfall" similar to that someone gave us... We cooked, and ran them through the Kitchen Aid pulp attachment.. Canned it like unsweetened apple sauce to use later in other things... Made and canned a big bunch of pear jam with clove and cinnamon MOST wonderful..

I made the juice and it turned out great. Have made some wonderful smoothies and it didn't need any sugar. Thanks for all the ideas.
