I want to give everyone a heads up that I'll be posting a sign up soon for this Fall's forum quilt. The due date for blocks will be around mid-November so that the winner can do some Black Friday fabric shopping if they choose. Watch this thread for the official sign up start date. . .
Sept. 14th--This quilt is now officially open for sign ups. I will start mailing fabric at the beginning of next week, and will continue to mail (if anyone wants to think on it a bit before signing up) until the end of September.
All blocks will be due back to me by November 19th. I will draw a winner that evening, and post the results on whatever is the last page for this thread on that date. Hopefully that will give the winner a chance to take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday fabric shopping deals.
As always, here's the specifics on how this quilt works:
To each person who signs up, I will send a 12" square of fabric. Using that fabric, and any other fabrics you like, you will sew a quilt block of any pattern you desire, as long as it finishes at 12.5 inches square. Please wash and dry all fabrics you use (forum fabric has all ready been prewashed), but please do not use fabric softener.
Mail your block back to me in time to arrive in my mailbox by Nov. 19th (the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving) to be eligible for the drawing. Please make sure to put enough postage on it, and allow about two weeks for delivery (just in case USPS has a case of the slows again this Fall). For each block received by the deadline, I will enter the name of the member who created it into the drawing, and then draw a winner at random after the deadline of Nov. 19th. The winning name will be posted on this thread, so don't forget to check back to see if you might be the lucky winner!
The person whose name is drawn at random will receive all the blocks.
The winner is responsible for supplying (either purchase or use stash fabric) four yards of fabric for the next forum quilt and must mail me that fabric. Once the new fabric has been received, I will send the winner the blocks they won, plus an extra yard of the forum fabric to use in finishing their quilt.

I hope everybody enjoys the fabric. I know it's a little different but thought it was a nice color. I planned in advance and made some blocks to go with the fabric when I mailed it to Kris. I think I sent five. I'm still having technical difficulties but will try to get another computer and camera this winter so I can post pictures of the blocks from our last forum quilt.

I had way too much going on suddenly after opening this quilt for sign-ups, then my local post office had issues (couldn't get postage on anything that needed weighing), so I wasn't able to get fabric mailed quite in the timeline I'd intended. If anyone hasn't gotten their fabric by now (it went out a couple weeks ago) please let me know. Meanwhile, happy sewing, everyone!

I mailed three blocks to you today. One is NOT the correct size, but I sent it any way in case the winner can use it for something, or "fix" it in some way to use.
(Since it's not the right size, it shouldn't be an entry in the drawing)

krisinmi, frogmammy, mzgarden, Maura, lindym, Melissa, calicokatie1, Hi everyone. There's 8 days left until the deadline for receiving blocks. Where did the time go? I know that I haven't even sat down to look at fabric yet (although I did spend a lot of time in October sewing a quilt for my new grandson). If everyone agrees, I wouldn't be adverse to extending the deadline out another week or so. But that would mean we wouldn't know the winner in time for them to take advantage of any Black Friday fabric sales. So unless there's a unanimous vote to extend it, blocks need to be mailed ASAP!

My blocks should have been there BUT twice I forgot the package when I headed into town, 25 minute drive, then we were snowed in for a week (24 inches in 36 hours  ). Finally got plowed out Thursday and went to town Friday forgetting that it was Veterans Day so the USPS was closed. Tomorrow I will be going for groceries and to do laundry so you will see it soon. I don't wish to be included in the drawing so an extension doesn't matter to me. Ya'all have a great Thanksgiving! |

Kris, I went to the post office to mail my square but it was closed. Lobby open, counter closed most of the day. So, it has been sitting in my car for, well for some time now. I mailed it thursday. Very sorry for the delay.

Thanks for the update, Maura. Blocks haven't been sent to the winner yet, so no worries on the delay.
Ironically, when I went to mail the fabric out to everyone in the fall, my local post office didn't have internet access for almost a month and every time I went in they said they couldn't do postage on anything that needed weighing to determine postage rate. And the p.o. in the town I drive through on my way to work everyday was closed from March through late November due to a leak in the roof. Going to any other post offices required a special trip, at least 10 miles and preplanning to fit my schedule. So I completely understand getting derailed by post office issues.

A little thread drift but - I always wonder why they took out the DIY postal machines from the PO's years ago. There are 3 POs near'ish to me. All used to have a machine that would weight/scan packages and envelopes and spit out postage you could slap on your package and drop in the slot. All the machines are gone now for years - but it sure was handy. Drift over.

Good news! Mailed the fabric for the NEXT blocks today. It is supposed to arrive Monday. I think it's a good design because it will match MANY different colors.
Didn't mail it earlier because I didn't want to stick it in with the multitude of Christmas packages and it get lost...or to sit at the mailbox in the snow for a week while you were gone for the holiday! (Hey, things happen!)

Maura, your block arrived last week. I really like the pattern, might have to try that one myself in the future.  frogmammy, the fabric was delivered yesterday. Oh boy, you weren't kidding about it matching many different colors. I love it! It's going to be so fun to play with. I think everyone is going to really enjoy working with it. I will try to get the blocks mailed out to you in the next week or so. I'm hoping to be able to go to the post office on Monday or Tuesday.
