The other evening, I heard peeper frogs for the first time.
Robins out in the field behind the barn.
Cardinals pairing off and singing.
Bees feeding on the maple tree blooms (sugaring season is over).
Green onions in the lawn.
Tiny green buds on the elderberry bushes.
New plantain shoots.
And my favorite: When our last German shepherd was still alive, I'd buy daffodil bulbs on clearance each fall. Sassy and I would go out and plant them in a 6 acre space we use for hay production. When spring rolled around, Sassy and I would go walk among the flowers and enjoy their nodding in the wind, peeking through the snow or just being beautiful. Sassy died Oct. 4, 2013 and I haven't been able to bring myself to plant more new bulbs. I do go out, dig up and divide clumps to plant them where the flowers are more sparse. I have about half the 6 acres, the part closer to the house, planted and every spring, it is a tribute to my not so little furry protector to walk among them. I don't bring the cut flowers into the house but will give bouquets to visitors. Surely do miss my Sassy.

It’s springtime here too, but is supposed to snow, only a little a couple of inches of wet snow tonight. I have my daffodils popping up , Iris’s, crocus bloomed once in February again.🙄 the Lilacs are budding, along with the Cherry tree. A couple warm days will get everything blooming in no time.
This has been another very strange winter here. Mild, little snow and only a weeks worth of cold temps in the teens. It’s mostly been 40-50 during the days and once in a while it’ll freeze at night. So very difficult than when I was a child. Poor kids didn’t get one snow day again this year. Oh how my children loved those special days off.
Daffodils are one of my favorite flowers! 🌼 when a child we’d go into the woods on our street and pick bunches of daffodils and narcissi for our mothers. The house smelled delightful. This makes me think of last year’s Lilacs. I brought a nice big bunch of Lilacs to my sister. She was very happy & her husband put them in a vase and was walking towards their bedroom. My sister said “ no, no not in the bedroom, they smell too much “ they are so potent, which I love, but not my peanut of a sister🥰 no more Lilacs for you!

Our average last frost is April 10 or so but I've seen snow on April 16 and both light and killing frosts around Memorial Day. I always try to plant later than sooner and keep a supply of cover materials available just in case.
Found some tiny green buds on my red goji berry bushes today too. Nothing yet on the black goji bushes.

No sign of spring here. We have about 3 feet of accumulated snow on the ground and roof tops since last November. Total snowfall for the season around 80 to 90 inches. Another foot forecast starting tomorrow. We can barely make out the top of our picnic table.

Cabin Fever, I don't LIKE that at all but gave you a thumbs up anyway just for surviving it so far.
Those poor folks out in CA who can't get out of their houses for all the snow? Nope, don't want that either.

Nope, don't want that either. This is pretty much normal for us. If not for snow, our winter would be like any other season. We like our winter snow activities.

Cabin Fever, that's why I live in Missouri. Like Miss Susan, I'm from a warmer locale.
Dustawaits, our high today is forecast to be 70 and we have sub-freezing temps at night for all of this coming weekend into next week. So far, nothing is in bloom but I do have some volunteer herb seeds coming up. I'll have to cover all that and keep my fingers crossed.
