The mailman brought the Breck's catalog today! Such a beautiful cover! Looking at all the pictures of the flowers gave me hope that Spring is almost here! Did anyone else get theirs? What signs do you have it is almost time to garden? Or have you already begun?

I haven't gotten a Breck's catalog in years! I didn't even know they were still in business. Enjoy!

Brent and Becky's came this week. Might go through and circle all I want, then decide what (how many) I can actually plant, and if I should risk getting it elsewhere if it'll be cheaper. I saw some of the double (quadruple?) tulips at the Botanical gardens last week and they don't look as nice IRL as in the photos- or maybe it's that unlike the peonies they resemble the flower is only perfect for a few days, then looks very disheveled. New garden/ zone so still learning what will grow here, what will come back here. And I started with almost all lawn- covered almost half of it by now with compost heaps in back yard, pine straw or wood chips front yard. But while I hope the grass will be dead by the time I'm pushing aside the mulch to plant bulbs, where I haven't actually dug out to plant a tree/ shrub there will be the plastic mesh from the turf and a foot or two of clay. Still unclear when it is best to dig into that clay- maybe a sharper spade would help, but probably the weather and my heat tolerance rather than how wet or dry the clay is will decide when I plant.
