Interesting. But the media wants us to believe that the fires are increasing. That's how they get people to tune in or read their take on things. As someone famous once said "Good news doesn't sell newspapers".

Around here we had our 100-year fire in 2015, so I figure we're safe for another 92 years.

People here in Missouri said that about the '93 flood being a 500 year flood. There was another one in '95.
I bet it wouldn't take 92 years to build up enough duff to make a decent conflagration but I hope you folks can reduce that build up with controlled burns and grazing by goats, etc.

Well, there's nothing anyone could do on an individual or community level to do anything about it, other than your own property. We were basically surrounded for 2 weeks by one of those really huge, out-of-control wildfire complexes you see on the news. It was just an extremely dry summer, combined with lots and lots of dry lightning in August, leading to a lot more firefighting experience than I ever wanted. There's nothing like seeing 130ft pine trees explode in flame in about 5 seconds because grass caught the lower branches on fire, to make you rethink some of your landscaping choices.
Also.. that was a joke; we're very aware it could happen again just about any summer, and we're far better equipped to deal with it now than we were then.

Backwoodsman, I was also comparing apples and oranges, I guess just goading you a little.
Hope you don't have to deal with it again nor do I want the Midwest to have another flood like those years. I'm all too familiar with big river floods having grown up cheek by jowl to the Lower Mississippi. I refuse to look at properties in a flood plain, thank you very much.
