Hello everybody, I have a question for you. Those of you that live in N.H or Maine, what do you like about your state? Did you grow up there or move into the state? Is there areas that you would avoid? What is it that keeps you there? How about your growing season? What do you grow the most of?
My husband and I are considering moving and those are the two states that are the front runners.

I don't live in either state but there used to be a woman who posted here who lived in New Hampshire. She had a very old house, some outbuildings and maybe 5-10 acres. We have a 40 something year old house, a barn, 2 outbuildings and 65 acres. Her property taxes were about three times what ours are. I haven't heard from her in over 10 years so may be an even higher rate by now.
She sent me a picture of accumulated snow that was about 5-6" above the window sill. You had 2-3 steps up to reach her back porch and maybe another into her house so the snow depth was considerable.

Here's my thought, big snow is a bonus.......... keeps the pesky salesman away!

We have a regular farm gate across our driveway and at present, 2 Great Pyrenees dogs to discourage the salesmen, folks wanting to distribute religious material, etc. At one time, we had 5 Pyrs, a German shepherd and a pit mix. Actually had a deputy sheriff tell me that with that pack, we didn't need to worry about the burglars whose activities he was investigating. One of the houses they hit was just across the road from us but well back from it. That gal didn't think the snow was so great when she had to go shovel paths from house to outbuildings to tend her animals.
