A teenager whose mother and aunt who were “discouraged with the state of the world” in recent years and had set out last July to permanently live near a campground in western Colorado. They had apparently attempted to camp through a brutal winter.

Congratulations on being able to find more information. I would be interested in what you discovered that you found to be enlightening regarding this tragedy?

They did not find a vehicle near the campsite. This suggests foul play to me. Or, somebody found the vehicle and just took off with it.

That's interesting. I remember my grandfathers leaving keys in vehicles. If I was isolated, I probably would have done the same.
I have never understood how some native Americans survived winters on the plains in teepees. When the temperatures in the middle of Texas went to single digits, and power went off, I wondered how I might survive for 24 hours in a home without a woodstove.

I sure can understand why they’d want to live off grid in our crazy world of today, however they seem not to be prepared to survive a winter in the wilderness. Maybe they took off too quickly with little preparation of what their needs would be.
Being their car was missing tells me that they had planned moving on to another area and stock up on the things they were missing. I agree with Maura, the missing car holds many answers.

It’s sad they were so unprepared.

Too many questions. Why did they suddenly take off? Why did they not give specifics as to where they were going? Were they hiding from someone. If they were hiding from someone did that someone find them? Two bodies in the tent- so they died at the same time?

Didn't necessarily die the same day, maybe not the same week. Maybe they had Covid or the flu. Maybe just too weak to try to get to help? Maybe too weak to bury the deceased? Maybe too weak to gather fire wood?
Definitely does not seem to be well planned. I've known guys to prepare six months for a two week camping trip. Maybe Revenant made it look easier than it was. That guy was very, very, very lucky.
I can't imagine a vehicle with three people, camping gear, clothes, and four months of canned goods (3 cans a day per person times 120 equals 1,080 cans).
