www.komu.com/news/state/elk-killed-by-mountain-lion-in-shannon-county-mdc-confirms/article_f8667ad2-5982-11ee-ae13-77b07e48adc7.htmlNothing new about mountain lions killing elk--probably been happening as long as there have been elk and mountain lions. Only thing is that the Missouri Dept. of Conservation reintroduced elk from Kentucky since we've been living here. If you read the article, you'll see a line about there being no breeding populations of mountain lions in Missouri. All this time, MDC has claimed that all ML sightings have been young transient males looking for females to establish their own territories. Only recently have they admitted to spotting females. Where you have boy MLs and girl MLs chances are real good there's some cubs hidden away. There used to be someone on the old forum who lived on a former Amish farm in an Amish community farther up in NE MO. She told about the Amish seeing females with cubs when they had their annual coyote hunt to reduce coyote populations. Sorry, I can't remember either her real or screen name. There was a ML killed along US 54 in this county several years ago, not far from where a friend lost sheep and her guard llama...do you suppose MDC was fudging the truth a little? NAAA. Not a government agency, surely.
