I bought six pepper plants and placed then in a bed to themselves. I noticed two days ago two of them planted side by side were looking funny. Had all the leaves but they were all folded down along the stem I put the water to them. Today all leaves have fallen off and it is just a bare stem. Gopher, mole exotic diesese??? Can anyone please help??? Martin???

I have a whole row of "pepper stems". I'm curious as well.

Did you pull one of them up to look at the roots? Are there any? Any webs on the undersides of the leaves?

Classic case of transplant shock. Usually affects big plants in pots a quarter of the size that they should have been in. Fertilizer and lots of water keep them alive and then suddenly they are on their own. A friend gave me a big one several days ago since he didn't have a need for it. (Buy one get one free.) Plant was a foot tall in a 3" pot. Today it has only about 3 green leaves at the very top. I've had that happen before I set them out and they always came back as long as the growth tip is alive.

Thanks folks going out later and pulling one up to see about the roots. All others seem fine.

My crop of pepper stems are growing leaves. I think they are going to make it.

Like I said, they will usually recover. You just might end up with plants just a bit taller than normal. That's a good thing if fruit are usually produced low on the stems. They won't be close to the ground where all sorts of bad things can happen.

Yep, sounds like the plant's roots outgrew their space. I have some tomatoes that I am just getting in, that I expect will "shock" that way. I just give them time, they nearly always make it. They are plants, they want to grow!
